I'm not the first to say it, but the base of that apple tree is about the biggest I've seen. It's going to make great firewood.
Got it all split and stacked. I’m guessing two years to dry. I’ll put a MM to it next year and see how it’s coming. It was a live tree when the homeowner had it cut down but I could tell from one rotted core section it was beginning to die. I had to pull about a dozen nails out of a bunch of splits as I didn’t want to get stabbed by them some late night in the future when I’m reloading the stove. I’m wondering it they weren’t what was ultimately killing this old tree…saved a couple buckets of shavings and smaller scraps for the meat smoker…and a pyramid pile of the shorts, uglies, and chunkies.
