I'm still at it. In the stand now, bow in hand. This guy is developing a regular pattern. Hopefully I catch him slipping up before it's all said and done.
Good luck. My preferred spot from last year where I struck out this year is at a small property owned by a widow lady from church. She told my wife on Sunday, there has been a buck showing up regularly now.
Saw a big buck, he milled around staying just outside of shooting distance for the last 30 minutes of light. Too smart to get any closer. I’m going to have to get a straight walled rifle or optics for that kind of distance. Im going to change my stand position next time I got out.
I saw does but no bucks. You definitely need to think about a straight walled rifle. I made the switch from slug gun to a 350 legend last year.
I think a something with magnification would do me wonders. I have color blindness and when a deer is backdropped by the forest floor covered in leaves my eyes have difficulty making a confident shot. It makes for a lot of visual noise. Even at 2 or 3x would do wonders. I’ve heard good things about 350 legend.
Nice work. If I had to chose between one 140" buck or 3 adult does for the season, I'd pic the 3 does any day/year!
Each time I make chili, I try to see how many different animals I can get in the pot. It's usually 3, with one of them always being venison chunks. Meats I typically add along with it are: ground beef and chunks of pork.
I've always wondered about that. I've always been on the "domestic" side of meat production (lamb, pork, beef, poultry) and uncastrated males are FAR from prime pick. I figured if the goal was primarily to put meat in the freezer, does would be the choice since I never see pics of hunters out in the field/woods with a burdizzo and rubber bands.
I haven't been out much these past few weeks but, this afternoon I'm excited to hunt a new property I just got permission for. Going to find a good climber tree and hope for the best. I'd like to put a few more does in the freezer.
