Nice out today and I don't work until tonight so I decided to get a dead cherry tree I've been looking at for a while now. Knew it was dead but it was dry enough to go straight to the burn pile. A little punky but split easy and burns nice

Nice little score! It’s satisfying to move something right to the front of the lines.

I always use a moisture meter with the grain, and now I wonder if that matters. Has anyone checked to see if it makes a difference?

Nice little grab and wouldn't see why the moisture meter question would make any difference. The pins are still probing in the same plane.

Nice stuff there. Cherry heartwood is very rot resistant. Very long "shelf life" in the woods.

In regards to the moisture meter question, I was told that some woods will have slightly different resistance across the grain vs with it...makes sense to me, look at how wood splits across vs with...

I've never seen a difference with my meter with eastern white pine, swamp maple or oak. Course I never get quite the same reading moving around a bit on a split either and none of my splits are very big. 2 small stoves.
