How much did you pay for your 592? Run that 500 before you consider. I've cut with them at 2 gtg's. Stock they just weren't that impressive to me. Ported saws spoil you though. And with the talk of them already being thirsty, I can't imagine porting would help. They were very light and handled/felt great, just not the engine performance I'm accustomed to.

I have never owned one. The bad experiences were from being around others who had them. Could have been the Sweedes just as easy. Only saw in the house growing up was an Echo. I remember it seemed like my dad cleaned the air filter a lot (by washing it with gasoline), but I don't remember him having to fight with it much to make it run.

Echo's definitely seem to always run. Very reliable. I lean echo over the others but I like and run them all. I'd be happy as a pig in mud if they would release that CS-4310 SX here in the states. The 543 xp is as close as I can get to that currently, being a Zenoah built saw.

I’m in the same boat here. Compared to an extra spicy ported 7900 a ported 500i was just meh to me. I guess I just expected more than similar feel and performance from the newest technology vs. 30+ year old design. I’d rather have a ported 592 or 661.

I wasn’t seriously considering buying it for myself, but if it coulda been had at a price with enough value left to flip it and make $150 or so I would probably do it.
It was just the first 500i I’ve ever seen or handled. And was surprised by how light it felt.
Now, about that MMWS 372, that would be fun to own I’m sure. But my new 592 has scratched my itch for now. I gotta get out and run it this weekend, I think I’ll be able to make time.

Just shy of $1200 from HLSUPPLY on their 20% of pro saw sale.
Someday I’ll either get myself or at least get to run a ported saw, I imagine it be all downhill from there.

I ran a ported saw at a gtg years ago, and that was the edge of the cliff (not just downhill). I learned all I could about porting and went to it.
I ported a small homelite first, just in case I messed up. The results from that one spurred me on to port all of my saws. My 372 is the only one still in stock form, and that's only because I have not had time to port it. It pulls an 8 pin in oak real well for a stock saw.

Had no intention of buying that one. Just gotta stop and look at what else might be there every time I’m in that town

Down here, marked price at pawn shops used to be stupid high. Waiting for a sucker, I guess. I have offered and bought several items at big discounts, like, up to 50% of their ask but have not been in one in several years.

Same here. I also jave not been in one in years. Their business is in moving product, not looking at it. They pay a small fraction of what they think it might go for and mark it high to start with.

    I picked up a 500i last year…

Then set it right back down knowing it wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon with me.
