I have already introduced myself on the "First time post" thread. Now I will share a current update. Last Sunday Son #2 and his wife volunteered to help with splitting and stacking wood. My wife also volunteered so I had a good crew. I ran the splitter, 34T. Son fed it rounds and large splits, DIL and Wife stacked. We had a good amount of wood already stacked, I think what we did Sunday was 5 pallets (32"x48") more. We have a little more to stack as we ran out of pallets. I get those from work and think that are about perfectly sized. The only ones I like better are the black plastic ones. they will never rot but they are rare. I only have two of those. I will get the rest of these stacks top covered soon as well. This next part might belong in the Tool Shed instead of here but ... I was having trouble with my Husqvarna 445 in October when cutting some trees at Son and DIL's house. (since fixed by replacing the ignition module) and they surprised heck out of me with a brand new Stihl MS 250 18' bar. I still can't believe they did that.
Way to get it done there folks. Great team effort. An impressive amount of wood there. Congrats on the new saw. May it serve you well. Hoard on and cut safe.
Nice stacks and new saw. I like it! It's really great when the family works together, too. Sent from my SM-S536DL using Tapatalk
It's great to have everyone together like that. Looks like it was a productive day for you as well. Pretty cool they got you a saw too!
Well done and welcome. First picture I went to was the saw , a natural reaction for me. Way to get it done!
I helped take down 6 trees total at their house on two different days, late summer and fall. When the Husky stopped sparking luckily there was a second saw on site so we could finish up. Now that I have two saws even if I'm the only one cutting I will have a back up saw so if problems occur with one I continue cutting. The two saws are pretty similar. My Husky was new in 2014 and has cut a lot of wood by homeowner status. I'm looking forward to breaking in the Stihl. Wood stacks have dry wood and drying wood, Ash, Oak, Maple, Boxelder, Mulberry?, and other misc some aspen and birch.
Two saw plan is the way to go. Like you mention you have back-up in case one gets bound up or decides it is time to take a nap.
Welcome to the family, nice looking stacks and sounds like you had a great crew. The family that does wood together does good together... .lol
Welcome MNWood. It's always nice to have help. Especially when they come bearing gifts. I'm not sure where you are located in MN, but try major recycling centers for scraped out plastic pallets. I recently bought 50 and got my pick of the litter from 300. All are in great shape. PM for details if needed.
MNWood So, this is how the addiction begins…..you now have a saw and a backup saw…..then a little later you will decide that you need a backup for the backup, or a saw just a little larger or smaller and now you’re fully hooked
Yeah, ….2 saw plan, That’s where it starts, probably safer and cheaper to go back to owning just one saw. But where’s the fun in that?
Congrats on the new saw and the teamwork. First wood stove, I had one saw. Next place I moved to, installed a wood stove and added two saws. Current location, installed a wood stove, up to 13 saws. I’m thinking if I move again, I better make sure the new place has a bigger saw shop. Oh, and I consider 13 to be an unlucky number so will need to sell a saw (yeah right!) or add another one. Just don’t move and install a stove at the new location and you should be fine.
Looks great, I love it when I can get my family to help. Getting a new saw is just the best, but make room because a new saw is like crack for a fire wood nut.
