Antique plates ... on a Toyota 4Runner?!?

I was just following a pristine early Toyota 4Runner. Ok, what's wrong with this picture?!?



They introduced the Toyota 4Runner in 1984, when I was a senior in high school. My brothers and I would have been thrilled to drive one of these things, but ... antique plates on a car introduced when I was a senior in high school?!? Ain't no way I'm that old yet.

This thing was cherry, wish I could have snapped better pics.

 

I was listening to the radio a few years ago. They were playing great songs from my youth, turned out to be an oldies station.

 

Just remember Back to the future came out in 1985 - most of it filmed in '84

 

Yeah, saw it in the theaters. As well as the very first Star Wars movie, in 1977.

Damm, I am getting old.

looking back on things, my buddies and I had posters of big 4x4 trucks, Ferraris, Porches Lotus' etc covering our walls.
That Yota for BTTF 1 was a cool looking truck when I was a kid, I watched a marathon of all 3 a few months back - funny how fads like roll bars with KC lights go away.

Antique, Classic Vehicles and Vintage Registration Plates
PURPOSE
This fact sheet outlines the policy for issuance of antique, classic and vintage registration plates.
DEFINITION OF ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC MOTOR VEHICLES AND VINTAGE REGISTRATION PLATES
Antique Motor Vehicle - A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformance with manufacturer specifications.
Classic Motor Vehicle - A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformity with manufacturer specifications and appearance.
Vintage Registration Plates - A vintage registration plate is a “period-issued” registration plate from 1906 to 1976 to be displayed on an antique or classic vehicle with the same corresponding year of manufacture. Vintage registration plates are not manufactured or issued by PennDOT. Applicants are required to provide the vintage registration plate they wish to display on their antique or classic vehicle.​

25 years prior to the current year?!?

In my day, antique cars were OLD!!!

How else would they sell Viagra?

 

I'd thought of putting an antique plate on my S-10 before I sold it as it qualified under MI law, but I didn't think I could talk my way out of any tickets I might bet if I got pulled over with a load of wood or something else in the back. You can't have an antique/historical/authentic plate on any general use vehicle in MI. Plus it was pretty beat up.

I have my 69 AMC registered with a historical/authentic plate. $35 for a lifetime registration. I think they changed that to $35 for 5 years now, but I got in on the old plan.

I remember seeing Back to the Future in the theater also. Can't believe that movie is nearly 30 years old.

We are not getting old. I refuse to get old. After all we are letting the next generation in on things that are new to them so we are ahead of the game. I, too, remember seeing Back to the Future - all three and the original Star Wars in a drive-in movie theatre. Remember them?

 

We actually still have one about 20 miles down the road. The only one I know of within 100 miles of us. They just closed for the season a couple weeks ago.

 

Went to a nephew's wedding several years ago and at the reception they danced to the same music we danced to at our wedding! They said you couldn't dance to today's stuff!

 

My wife and I took my aunt and uncle who are 85 and 87 out to dinner this past weekend. My uncle said to my aunt "I took 2 Viagra before we left, maybe tonight will be the night." We all had a good laugh.
