So, cruising the FB marketplace for saws is a hobby of mine. Came across a Poulan Pro 4000 Countervibe (65 cc) in a nearby town. This one is actually red/metal case with a chainbrake, as opposed to the normal lime green. Anyways, bought it sight unseen for $125, as the guy had a reputation for being a decent guy. Buddy picked it up and dropped it off for me. Seems to be alright, it does need new a/v bushings, as they are shot, and maybe fuel lines and a carb rebuild (runs decent though). Other buddy in Alberta says he's never seen one local to him, so I think it might not be rare, but probably uncommon. Heavy as heck and gobs of power! Chain teeth looked like ski slopes and it still ripped through pine without a thought. I'll probably test it a bit more and try to get pics and a video for everyone in a day or two. Anyways, anyone else own one? What do you think of these old saws? Is there any parts commonality with other saws? Tell me I did alright $$ wise. Remember, it's in Canadian pesos lol
Just about any solid running saw is worth $100, so you made out alright. Some saw pics would help out.
I sure miss thistle when these pop up. He had posted quite a bit about the Counter Vibe Poulans some years ago.
Probably needs a fuel lines and a carb rebuild, but good enough for now. Fuel mix and hi jet set to mosquito fogger mode.
The saw you bought is a great saw. It is the largest cc saw in the countervibe series. They made the 54cc 3400 the 60cc 3700 and then the Poulan 4000 which is 65cc. There is a 3800 but the cylinder not chrome plated and it is 61cc. Not one of my favorites. All the cylinders and pistons are interchangeable to the crankcases and to the connecting rod on the 3400, 3700,and 4000. The Poulan 4000 version that you have is the same as the Poulan pro 395 but in different colors. The 4000 did not always come with a chain brake like up in Canada but the 395 in America always had a chain brake. The Poulan 4000 Canadian version the Poulan 4000 USA version and the Poulan pro 395 are all interchangeable from the air filter to all the covers. These saws are easy to work on and can benefit well from modifications. I have a bunch of the these saws and have modified the heck out of them. 4 Poulan 4000 3 Poulan 395 4 Poulan 3700 2 Poulan 3400 But no Canadian versions. The crankcases and the clutch cover and starter covers are magnesium. The cylinder cover and air filter cover are plastic. The 3400 had two thick rings and the 3700 and 4000 had two thin rings. If you need to know anything else let me know.
Thank you for the info and the offer. I'll definitely be picking your brain later on in deep winter. I had a feeling this saw has potential, as even with a ski sloped untouched raker chain it came with, it cut fairly quick and I could lean on it. I guess that's the torque?
