5 rows deep. Lot of weight there! Pin oak, sunburst locust, few rounds of cottonwood, and a few rounds of black locust. Mostly the oak.
Same scrounge different trucks. What a difference 4 months make. Last time I was here there were ground wasps. A load of beech today , kickin it old school with the 89 f150. There’s a ton of silver maple and tulip poplar, but the beech has my full attention.
Got a beech down behind my mother in laws that I’ll be getting after soon! Love the stuff. Love that pickup too
Never burned any beech myself but I can tell it’s good hard wood. I really like the brick nose and OBS fords. Inline six in mine, does yours have the 460? Your rig is a heck of a lot more heavy duty, wish mine was 3/4 or 1 ton like your it does ok for a 1/2 ton.
Mine has the international 7.3. You’re gonna love the beech! With the price of the newer trucks, I’ll probably just stick with older stuff. Older stuff with no rust and low miles is commanding a fair penny these days, but nothing compared to the cost of newer stuff without rust and with low miles Not to mention, I’ve heard some horror stories from friends and coworkers about chip availability delaying auto repairs. Anywho, you’ll have to let us know what you think of the beech when it comes time to burn it
That beech is nice stuff. Perfect that you can almost back up to it and not have to schlep it out. Sweet PU too. How many miles? Owned a 1986 F150 til 2001.
Load of mostly red maple i delivered yesterday. Stacked it in her garage. They were very pleased as the last wood purchased wasnt burning well.
It's all fire killed or dead standing pine. Might have been 3-4 sticks of poplar in there that came home with me just because I had to cut them to get to my good stuff.
Our selection of wood is limited here actually...can trip over pine and poplar everywhere though. There's birch and larch around, but more so out of my area. Yeah, that one load was really small wood, basically 2 or 3 8 footers per tree. Was cutting my way in to a better area. But, it's all fire killed and it all burns well. Not like my stove is real big!
How far is a typical wood scrounge for you? Living in a densely populated, heavily wooded area i dont travel more than 15 minutes for free wood.
Oh, it all depends where the fires have went through. I can cut poplar anywhere out here, but there's forest 10 miles away, and the spot I was at is about 15 miles from me. Really close to the city, so most of the easy pickings are gone.
