Friend texted me and asked how to go about fixing this. I never tried to fix blemishes or damage on my cast iron stove whwn i had one. How would you go about fixing this. Below is the text. oh wise wood burner, i seek your advice. my new wood stove has a tiny bit of surface damage. i realized how it got there and would like to prevent it happening again. 2 questions: 1) should i wire brush/ steel wool the corrosion and reblack those spots or the entire surface? 2) would it be safe to set a square of quartz set on 4 pieces of stainless on the top of the stove?
Looks pitted from rust to me. If it were my stove, I'd use some high temp black stove paint and call it done.
You might get away with just rubbing some stove black paste into the pits while the stove is still cold. You'll still have pits but they'll be black. It's easier than taking the stove outside and spray painting it.
You could probably spray a lil high temp black paint into a plastic cap, then use a small artist paint brush to spot paint that...wouldn't stink the place up much that way.
No need to take it outside, just sand/wire wheel and then spray the whole top with your favorite high temp paint right in the living room. It'll stink but so will the first burn.
