A bit colder but still mild all things considered. Sitting around -7 C/19F right now, pine keeping the shack warm.

It has warmed up considerably. 54*/40* with wind and a lot of rain. Doug fir for a morning fire to combat the moisture and cheer the heart!

I love how people turn their nose up when it comes to silver maple, but then complain that their oak is not dry enough to burn. Had a customer a couple years ago whining like that. Delivered a load but had to make sure there was no maple in it. He called again this year but told him we were sold out of good dry wood.

I burn a lot of silver maple, I don't understand people being picky about wood either. We burn everything at our house. Sometimes the best loads are a mix of hard and softwood imo

One goal from yesterday was to grab a tote of shorts/chunks that have been sitting for over a year but a tote of, a little past it's prime, maple in front so grabbed it. Needed good dry shoulder wood anyway and can get the chunks the next trip.

I personally don't have space to hoard every score available to me, so I choose premium high BTU hardwoods. If I needed wood, I certainly wouldn't snob silver maple. I've burned a bunch, my neighbor had a huge one taken down many years ago and I got all the wood from it. Also, being 5-6 years ahead, I can be more selective of what I get.

I woke up to 37 and got some white oak, apple and cherry going in the Lopi. It’s 45 and rising towards 50 now, so I threw some pine in just to burn down the coals. I’ll let the stove go out until some more heat is needed. I cleaned out the ashes this morning (first time in 4 weeks) The pine trick works

Chilly start to the morning, weather said low of -11C/12F overnight, but was closer to -18C/0F plus some wind on top. Even the oil furnace was not impressed. Sitting at -5C/23F at the moment and pine chunks as always.

You’ll get there just keep plugging away at it. I can remember logging on here years ago and being only a year ahead. One year later I got a few good scrounges and I was three years ahead. Now I’m 10 years ahead. It all adds up.
