And then tonight, with my rifle, “Moose” messed up before dark. Hes been nocturnal, but with these frigid temps I knew he would slip. So on my first sit for him, he slipped- too predictable!!
I didnt see anything on my trip up north. Crazy thing was the 2 guys staying in the campsite right next to me are from the next town over from where I live. We both drove 2+ hours to hunt up in the mountains lol. He told me he's been making that trip for 50 years.
Decided to stihl hunt the standing corn the standing corn yesterday morning since it was so windy. Was just filling up the shop stove before I went out and looked out the window and had a deer/buck ? standing in my field. Grabbed the gun and ran around the shop but it was gone. Snuck around the corn for a while and saw nothing. Decided to grab the saw and go down back and cut a big ash tree that had blown over last week. Took the trusty 'ol 30/30 along just in case. Driving through the woods i thought I caught a glimpse of a deer with horns but didn't see it run out of the woods. Left the tractor running and snuck around the other side and thought I saw a nose and horns in the super thick brush. To close to see anything in the scope so I used the iron sights.
Ejp1234 that's a cool looking buck congrats. Good job farmer steve , but did you get that ash cut up? I saw 3 doe yesterday, they stayed in the brush, had a shot at the one but with a doe already in the freezer, Im looking for some antlers. This morning I didn't see anything. Only stayed out until 9. It was about 21* and I admit, I got cold!
I'm surprised it wasn't colder up there...jeep said 13 degrees when I was on the way to work at 715 this am!
Thats what my phone read, so who knows what it really was. All I know the condensation from my breath was creating ice flakes on the inside of the blind, lol.
Went out slow walking Monday. Was waiting for shooting light and needed to take a leak (still right beside my truck)...I hear a grunt. Look over inna woods to see a medium 8pt chasing four doe. I hadn't even got my jacket on. Wasn't interested in that particular fellow. Maybe next year. Had to wait on them to clear out before I could even walk into the woods. Ran into them about 30 minutes later and again had to wait. Rest of my day saw no more deer and very few critters overall. I think most were smarter than me and had stayed in bed.
I might be dropping my head off to a guy tomorrow. I think my buddy paid $160 from the same guy. Has a cool plaque. I'll try and remember to let you know.
He did it himself. Simmer it for 2-3 hours changing the water once and add dish soap on the second round. Clean off all the junk and whiten with peroxide stuff. I don't like them super white...they start to look a little fake at a certain point. Super Star Cream Peroxide Developer 40 Volume
I agree. I take mine to a place that uses the beetles, they don't come out super white. Not to many years ago they were $60, they are up to $95 now.
Congratulations to her!! I can't complain about tonight. I passed on a couple doe. One had me checking 3 times to be sure she didn't have antlers. She was a big doe. My son had the big 8 we have seen around about 275 yards out. He didnt want to take the shot because it was on top of a hill and there are houses in that direction. Not real close, but he sided on the cautious side.
That first deer is so exciting! I remember being with my son when he shot his first not that many years ago. Congrats to both of you
