Hi Guys - The winch that came with my ATV (2019 can am) seems to be giving up the ghost. Its got a really nice grinding sound when I line out and is now occasionally stalling out the ATV engine when I winch in (with or without a load on it). I can't consistently reproduce the the problem, which leads me to a bad spot on the motor of the winch. I suppose it could also be the switch, but I replaced that not to long ago. Can AM wants anywhere from 300 to 750 bucks for a winch and I'm not paying that. Was thinking about trying one of the Badland winches from Harbor Freight, either the 3500 or 5000 lb winch (which is WAY more winch than I need). I figure if I'm going to dive into this, may as well put the biggest winch I can fit in the ATV. Does anyone have any experience with the Badland winches? The have pretty good reviews. Also, if anyone has experience with the winch stalling out an ATV engine and what they found was the culprit, I'm all ears. I originally though maybe a battery issue, since the battery was four years old and only showing about 12.4 volts fully charged. So I replaced it, but the issue is still present. Which puts me back to a bad switch or winch. Thanks in advance... J
Good reviews from what I have read. We did use one on a student project and it was OK for what it was and had to do , I think it was the smallest one they offered. I am going to buy one myself and mount it on the front of my trailer ( not sure what size ), just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I have a Badlands 3500lb that I made into a crane on my trailer. I have used it for loading and yarding in rounds and logs for about 3 years and it seems bullet proof. It has a switch on a 12 ft, plug in, lead and an extra switch to go on an ATV handlebar. Although the 2500lb winch has a wireless switch which works very well, the 3500 has a larger dia. cable of greater length and a better water resistant rating. Plus it comes with a small roller fairlead. I have no input on a 5000lb unit but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 3500. I seem to recall a price of around $149 at HF.
