Bringing in a little firewood this morning after finishing cleaning up from last night’s Thanksgiving Dinner. All went very well.

I believe I’ll get back out there this afternoon and split some more of 24-25 season BTUs.

I split about 2-1/4 face cord of Ash off and on yesterday. The breeze outside was cold then. My son came out and stacked it all for me while listening to his tunes through his ear buds.

This was taken in the north western area of Maine. It is in our hills and mountains. In my area, we still have no snow because of the ocean effects. From the picture, you can see there still isn't ice over the rivers and lakes.

My wife and I got our Christmas tree today. We went with a Grand Fir again, about 7' tall. There were supposed to be 6-8 footers, but this was the tallest one. I've got a rule about Christmas trees that they can't be shorter than I am at 6'4". Last year was a close one. We can take a pretty tall tree with the cathedral ceiling in the family room. The only issue with a 9+ footer is the ceiling fan when we put the tree up by the bay window. Now if we rearranged the couches, we could put at 15-16 footer. Still nothing like at the old house where I grew up that we had the height capacity of a 25' tree. We had one or 5 like that growing up, but usually settled on 15 footers. Those big trees are a lot of work to get home from the woods, then into the house and up. We started to use a loping shears and would cut those big trees in half when taking them down after the holidays. Anything over 8 feet or so you just really have to be vet out beforehand. That's not something you can just go out and buy. It's been difficult the past couple of years finding a 7 footer.

Got some exercise working out and moving some firewood this morning. Went for a ride with my wife and picked up a handmade basket she had repaired by an Amish family. They did a great job. Stopped at Pickens General Store in Heauvelton, NY and she did a little window shopping for some Christmas ideas. I bought some fresh Cheese Curd.

Did some fence mending with my wife and then I did some wood splitting. All that with fresh, cold air was good for tiring me out.

Not much today. Gathered up 24 hours of boiler wood from the treetops cleaning. Took a nap and settled in for football rivalry day.

also got the fireplace going this weekend- only for ambiance, but the wife wanted it

Yesterday filled the inside wood rack and wheelbarrow in the garage. Today went out and finished the hackberry from 12 Nov. Put it with the rest of the wood ready for splitting. May work on that tomorrow unless too cold for the splitter in which case I will cut another load from the trees.
Nice to know I have some staged for splitting if we get snowed out down east where the wood is. 20231125_125028.jpg Pile .jpg Pile front .jpg Pile left.jpg Pile right.jpg

I haven't seen temperatures that are too cold for the splitter, unless you have an engine that doesn't like to start when it's cold out. As long as you can get out and work, you'll be able to use a splitter, you just need to let it warm up a bit first.
