This day started bad for me but by the afternoon I was fine. I had invited one of my my adopted granddaughters to hunt deer. She had never shot one. So yesterday was opening day and we saw some deer but no shooters. This afternoon this guy came in and at first he did not look big enough but as he got closer and faced us I could see he was a good one. I told her I thought she should take him. She hesitated and I told her to get the gun on the rest and ready but not shoot. She agreed and said she would like a broadside shot. She got what she needed and made a perfect shot.

I am so proud of her and I want to get the head mounted for her. My season was a success! btw, this lady is a manager of a Tractor supply store too.

The question no one is asking is this.

    Who dressed the deer?

It's OK to supervise but I hope you didn't help!

    Congrats!

A nice deer she can be proud of! I'm sure he'll be the talk of the town at Rural King for a day or two.

I am going to go out Monday after Thanksgiving. Have a decent 9 pointer regularly on the property. Hoping to see a bigger one that was around still after season last year. Have been 'watching' them with the cameras for so long that I can recognize 'family' members by the shapes of their antlers. Have two main shapes that dominate my area. Upward sloping and wide & rounded. The sloping racks usually have crab pincers out front. The wide rounds never get much tine length, but are usually around a 20" spread. I have always been a sucker for tall and straight tines. Unfortunately my piece of forest doesn't see them much.

.357 wheel gun is what I am taking with. These days I'm mostly out to make sure the nieghbors abide boundaries. Deer fever can make people do things they normally woudn't. Really only have to look after two 'sides'. I use Still hunt tecnique off of my trails. Can move around the property in relative silence. Not so much in the foot deep leaf litter off the trails.

Most jobs require a good supervisor. She did the job with just some coaxing from her father and me. It took very little. Just show by starting certain areas and then let her go. She really wanted to do it too. Most of the work I did was getting tractor then going to woods to get it, then taking it to her father's place.
