Comox, British Columbia is the place although the sand isn't quite warm enough in the afternoon. Ski in the morning, go sailing or golfing in the afternoon.

If I were a single man with no kids, living a nomadic life on my Harley would be fun for a few years. The wife's dream is Montana. My eventual goal is somewhere that I can walk outside, take a leak off the porch, and fire my 1911 into the air to start my day.

Ima load the snowblower on the roof of my car and drive south till someone asks, "what is that?"
And that's where I'm gonna stay.

For me to mention another place to live, given the good grace I gave been given, would be to offend God’s plan. I want for nothing more. Though Mrs. Sourwood would enjoy waking on a beach every morning.

I always tell the people at work that if I won the lottery they'd never see me or hear from me ever again. I'd buy a bunch of land where there are 4 seasons and be happy.

I had a brother-in-law that was going to drive east until somebody asked what was the oar used for. He figured he would be far enough from the coast then.

I would stay fairly close to where I am now..but I want enough land to be almost completely self sufficient. Small fruit orchard, some vegetable crops and some chickens. And able to grow food for chickens.
Possibly some milk animal like goats.

I don’t know how much longer I can make it in Washington. So many people, blue people, and the rules just get worse and worse. It used to be that I could sell my home here and find similar homes for less in other less blue states. My kids are almost launched. I like to be near stores to buy food and maybe coffee shops and feed stores but don’t want to live right on top of other people.

The wife and I are not well traveled. Does that really help find places to live?

Absolutely. And sometimes you end up appreciating the one you've got despite all the warts.

It did me, best climate for me was Redding California, great uncle had farm sit on porch in July night no mosquitoes… wow

stayed several weeks one summer in CA TX WY Blue ridge park way… then several days driving between locations.. Great way to cure empty nest feelings

We’ve definitely spent nights in Redding CA while driving through I-5. It was always burning! But forested and less populated. Isn’t Vermont much different? The politics of CA would almost certainly eliminate that state from us living there.

There’s value standing in defiance in a state where everyone else is marching in lock step and you’re not having any of it. Of course you won’t have representation, but you can stick it to them with your very existence. Your continued presence alone will be a thorn in their side.

My story, except the lottery part.
Found and bought 1.1 square miles of Maine woods, never looked back.

Just last month, I filed the paperwork to create a family plot on our 85 acres of the Maine woods. Dig a hole, roll me in, cover me up and plant a White Pine on me, I’m not going anywhere.

Yes much different, first it’s never dry, called green mountain state, basically mountains run down middle lake valley west side and Connecticut river valley east side.. I was there in 80s as teenager, didn’t understand politics and fire danger. Uncle had 500 acre horse farm.. I guess I always liked farms and land. But no bugs on a front porch where I slept was amazing to me
Went to school in UVA Charlottesville so camping in blue ridge mountains was nice to get away from people
