Good evening after work yesterday. Not super huge at 115-120-ish but still pretty cool. An absolute killing machine, well designed for their purpose in life. Since they banned running dogs here, I forgot how impressive these are close up. Max will fight with anything so she came in after I tracked and got it back down out of the brush. Getting checked in and tagged at ODFW this morning. Owl
I'm gonna call in Eric VW , brenndatomu and a few other of the boys on this question! Answering this can get a guy into BIG trouble!
Yes, although we call them lions up here. Not too bad. Wouldn't kill one for food. Way way too many of them.
Yup, plenty. It’s not bad, but like Camber said wouldn’t kill one for specifically food. Cat & Rat Information from check in and getting sealed. 128 pounds, good sized female for our area. 6-7 years old by gum measurements. Very healthy and aging well. Estimated that among other small prey it would take probably 1+ deer every week or so, maybe two per week if it was raising kittens. Should help my backyard deer and elk population a little bit. More information will be mailed after they do whatever they do with the teeth and tissue samples that were taken. Owl
In the spirit of chances blown and lifelong regrets, yeah I'm gonna go there. Back when I was 20 years younger, I found myself cornered one day and had the opportunity but didn't take it. I know now to chow down when it's dinner time. These are the mental movies playing on a continuous loop in my head that keep me up late at night.
Probably some of the best meat I’ve ever eaten, tastes close to young venison. I was turkey hunting one year, a guy asked me if I was hungry? He had a bunch of meat fried up, it was very good to say the least! His young son asked his dad if he was going to tell me what it was, dad said sure, then, he told me it was cougar! I would have guessed venison! It was very good!
Totally not where I thought this convo was gonna go.... I had no idea you could eat a mountain lion, ie that cougar... So I for one, did not think he meant that...oh nevermind....
We had a game feast at a local Sportsman's club and several varieties of cougar dishes were available from sausage to casserole. All were good and the sausage was excellent! Congrats on the harvest!
