I have approximately a gallon of fuel through mine now. The 543 that is, the RedMax is in a cabinet currently with some heat cycles completed only. I like these saws a lot.

Yep. Growing up McCulloch was the brand my dad and uncle used. Mac 10-10’s with 16 hard nose bars and the “big” saw was a ProMac 700 with a 20 bar.

I'm planning to take the 241 on my next cutting day for some more comparison relevant to this thread.
I was definitely noticing the inferior av on the redmax yesterday...not bad with gloves, but not on par with the little Stihl.

I'm running the stock air filter..... probably sucking fines, but oh well..

I agree on the vibes. With gloves its not bad but I haven't ran them back to back. Plus the 241 has all the extra sausage stuffing so theres that as far as power goes. I'll say, going off memory, this 543 with muffler mod and my V-stack / filter combo is on par with my stock 241 now that its had plenty of run time. I cut down and bucked 7 trees with it this morning. 4 Maple ranging from roughly 6"- 15" and 3 popple from 6"-10". All over 30' tall. It oils a bit better than the 241 and stays cleaner somehow. Or, it appears to because its a darker color? One of my little OCD items I noticed. :loco:

Grease the filter split seam on the 543. See if that helps if yours is sucking fines. Mine would have been this morning as one of the maples has a 1" layer of dead, dusty crap on the outside under the bark that all departed the second it touched down. The bark that is.

I'm liking the saw enough as is that I may not have Kevin port it but I'm staying in his list because # XS346 build...:D

Best to stay on that list cause it grows daily. Word has gotten out about that XS stuff he puts in there.

Same here but it was 10-10s and a pm805. My dope headed uncle made off with the saws, sure wish I had em. If only to hold and coon finger once in a while to bring back some great memories.

The older I get the more I resemble this. Still like braking out the big saws for the wow factor.

    Same here.
I enjoyed cutting a few big trees with the ported 372 the other day, but unless I'm in real big stuff or bucking lots of firewood, the smaller saws are just fine.
It's all about a properly cutting sharp chain.

If the 346 deal happens, that's my "big" saw. Lol. Probably just GTG cutting.

I recently had a 346 done up by stump shot, but I haven't ran it enough to form an opinion.
    Too many saws....yup I said that....:loco:

Have you greased the filter halves to do a comparison? I would have had I noticed before modding mine.

Ran on Ultra Trash. No scoring though. Machine marks still on the areas of the piston I can see. I'll run Red Armor for a while to see if it removes it. If not I'll pull the cylinder and clean it and do a base gasket delete.

This gives me the opportunity to run a stock 241 against my muffler modded / V stacked 543XP with .325 on each and with the original 3/8 Picco on the Stihl as well. After that the 241 gets a muffler mod and a Red Beard foam filter.
