Not to disagree or belittle by any stretch. Respectfully I have to agree with Backwoods Savage if I had to fuss that much with kindling and frankly just fuss that much all around I would want a different stove. From a coal bed I load splits with the bypass open and the draft half open until the cat probe shows 800, engage the cat and draw the draft down, then cruise. All that takes about 15 minutes. If cold start I use a few small pieces of kindling under some splits with 1/4 super cedar then same process until the probe shows 800. That takes about 20 minutes.

The first year I bought an electric hyd splitter I made a huge pile of pine splits. At least a cord. The new splitter was "fun". Lots of splits to use starting fires. It didn't take long at all for splitting to become just another chore and "a huge pile of pine splits" was crossed off my list of accomplishments and went back to not needing them. It was just another way to start a fire. I don't think I ever went back and found the fire didn't 'take'.

Are you aware the big BK King takes an 8” flue. If you choke it down to a 6” you’ll be disappointed.

Yes, there was much discussion about it in another thread...gonna try the 6" first, then swap to 8" if it doesn't pan out...as I understand it...

His attempt at the 6” will benefit others. I hope he reports back.

If you run the King on a 6 " your going to have a smoky house every time you go to reload. I already tried it.

From what I read, some people (few) do get away with it though too...

I know somebody who has a stove that requires a 6” chimney and he has an 8” stove pipe with an adaptor/ reducer. The stove pipe is not very long/high either. Kinda the opposite thing going on. It seems to work fine. The house came with the 8” pipe and he doesn’t have the money to change it out. It’s not correct but he doesn’t freeze to death.

Ya that will work but not so much with an 8 going into a 6 without a lot of smoke into the house on reloads.I have a 8 going into a 7 on my ONE which works fine but the 8 into the 6 is smoky.

Yes, I am. I'm prepared to upgrade it to the 8" flue, which is perfectly fine, as I am more concerned about heat at this point.

You are correct. Either way I win. If it works on the 6" win, if I upgrade to 8" chimney, I win. I'm good either way!

You will all be in the loop on the new install. I will give the full details once I try it on the 6" and keep you posted.

If you can upgrade to the 8" you win no doubt. If you go into the 6" and if you call smoke into the house on reloads a win you win.Me I call smoke into the house on reloads a disaster.

If I get smoke in the house on one reload, it'd be 8" all the way through. That's definitely not a win.

I think a lot of that is natural draw of the chimney and loading door opening 20x24 inches square up a 6 or 8 inch pipe. A electric draft inducer fan cheaper than new pipe
