I use my laser guided eyes to guesstimate the length . I’m m usually within an inch or 2 of 16”.

 

It’s all white and red oak cut with a permit on state property. I’ve been hand splitting everything in the woods so the bark and mess stays out there!

Thanks, and yes it’s blue jeans and caribou. I’m about ready to get it washed and detailed after a couple more loads.

Nice load. What percentage of your stash is SS wood?

 

Maybe around 30%. Hard to say in my unorganized system.
Also depends on the definition of “shoulder season wood”. I’m sure much of what you easterners would consider SS wood falls into the “pretty decent firewood” category for me.
Most of this spruce will probably be mainly for outdoor camp/backyard fires. Burns really bright and fast.

Softwoods and cottonwood SS in your area? I know most of your good hardwood is elm.

 

Cottonwood trees are very abundant here. And for the most part very available. Very seldom mess with it for myself. We burn some at work, mostly because we took out a LOT of it a couple years ago but most of it is probably going south by now ( haven’t checked on it lately) bunch of logs left to buck, and a lot of rounds left to split. But don’t have much of an inventory of anything else at work,so much of it may get burned this season
