Subject:Ford marvel Build a B24 in 55mins...25 per day! I'v forwarded this at least once previously. See also here. ---------- Forwarded message --------- 7:04 min - - - interesting piece of history ol' Henry was obviously more than just a pretty face. This was BEFORE Pearl Harbour Ford's B-24 Bomber Plant at Willow Run, Mich. Henry Ford was determined that he could mass produce bombers just as he had done with cars. He built the Willow Run assembly plant and proved it. It was the world's largest building under one roof. This film will absolutely blow you away - one B-24 every 55 minutes. ADOLF HITLER HAD NO IDEA THE U.S. WAS CAPABLE OF THIS KIND OF THING. http://www.youtube.com/embed/iKlt6rNciTo?rel=0. Note General Motors tried to get in on the act, but could not get it off the ground !!!!!!!!!!!! Sadly, our youth of today couldn't give a S#!T....
The man was driven. Couldn't do it in America today. You would have to cut regulations and get rid of HR departments. Pretty neat history.
Thanks for the post WeldrDave, World War II was a " do or die" time in our history. Thank God for American ingenuity and teamwork toward the war effort.
I grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, ~10 miles from the Willow Run plant. I lived right next to Pittsfield Village which was a large neighborhood of condos/townhomes built to house Willow Run workers and then GI's returning from WWII. Back in the '70's - '80's when I lived there, it was mostly low-income housing, but like everything in A2, someone eventually bought it, did some reno's and now it's kind of bougie $$$.
