Hey everyone…, I have been cutting some dead oaks, maple and Sassafras along the driveway… I started cutting a few rounds to 11” to sell for Solo stoves.. we will see how that goes?… Here’s a couple pics…
What’s up with that fence/wall in the last pic? Looks really cool! I live in an urban area…I’d probably kill it if I offered SoloStove specific wood
I have cut just shy of a cord of 11” long, oak, sassafras and maple for Solo stoves. I’m thinking it will sell pretty good as the small Solo stove only takes 12” max. I don’t know where anyone would even find firewood that short? So next year when it’s dry I’ll see how it sells. I just used my backpack blower to clean the place up before I took the pics! Its going to be leaf blowing season pretty soon, but I have a plan for that this year too… Here’s a couple of the 11” stacks….
Looks great and very envious of how clean and organized your place is. Like others have said, looks like your off to a great start. By the way, what equipment are you using for your operation?
I have a couple relatives in Norway that have stoves that use 1/3 meter splits. They cut their firewood in one meter lengths, split it, stack it and then cut them in three during the Winter in the barn as needed. Their trees don't get all that big around as the trees are not that old, mostly birch was what I saw. Most of the logs only get split in half. They all have several small stoves in the house rather than one big one.
I spotted a Solo stove in the storage area at the house im working on. Thinking of giving it a try...selling bundles that is. How did you come up with the 11" length? Mfr suggestion?
Two of the more popular size Solos are the Ranger and Bonfire. The ranger is 12” in diameter and the bonfire is 16”.. I had a guy that had a bonfire that bought some short 12” wood from me that said he didn’t want the 16” wood, said if you get some that are longer than 16” or larger splits they just don’t fit. He said the ideal length to him was 12” or less. The Ranger is smaller at 12” so I figured cut everything to 11” and cover those two Solo stoves? Who sells wood that short if you buy one of the smaller smokeless stoves?
The beautiful brand new Hocking Hills State park lodge has outdoor patio seating with a bunch of Solo stoves and they sell the bundles of firewood there for $12.00. Small bundles with 5 or 6 splits of Aspen ect..I won’t sell there but it makes you think there’s a market for this smaller stuff.
