Hauling some split white oak this afternoon. Had one in the pasture got hit by lightning and one from about a year ago I just split up . Had a little help from the gate openers and heeler . White oak sucks splitting freshly cut
Yeah White Oak can be a PIA and make you appreciate and miss Red Oak. Chopping at strings is no fun and time consuming. It splits easier after being dead a while like many others.
We got a fair amount around the farm . I don’t like cutting too much of it down unless I have to . We had the farm logged in the late 90s and they damaged a lot of bottoms . Mostly what I cut is wild cherry and fire cherry and some maple . I try to wait for the bigger oaks to let something happen to them before I cut them . Also like to save some for the woodmizer as well , course I use the tops for fire wood too .
