Arning ahead of ti.e, this is a bit lengthy. I've posted a bit about this before, but just figured a few things out... When we bought our house, inspector sid the chimney was cracked. Got a contractor to look at it, he relined with rhino rigid. Never burned the old smoke dragon that was in there, replaced with an absolute steel, and started burning mid January '23. Stove runs ok/decent, but I'm short on stack and adding could probably help. Plus I have a piece of rhino rigid (single wall) sticking up above the brick chimney, probably 12-18ish inches. Several people have said I need to insulate that piece, and/or add some dbl wall chimney pipe up there. Have searched for pieces and parts, called contractors who didn't provide any help/insight (prob cause I'm a ways from them and not worth their time). Finally searched the right words lately, and found found a doc that referenced a 'transition plate' that can be used for hooking single wall such as rhino to Ventis. Also figured out that is seems rhino is made by Olympia, who was bought by Copperfield. Called them yesterday, spoke to a rep. Of course they won't sell to a homeowner, and evidently can't talk to tech support either. Gave me the number of a contractor in my area. Looked them up, crazy thing is we know the contractor from church. I will chat to him and see what he says. If i have to get that transition plate...yowsers it's a bit expensive. But if I do, hopefully it will improve performance, and well it is what it is.... Guessing/assuming I will have to cut off majority of that exposed rhino, unless this and the dbl wall slips over. Is Ventis chimney pipe a good product? If you made it to this point, thanks for sticking around....
Hopefully the contractor you know from church has a good (and cheaper) solution. Maybe something could be fabricated locally?
Yes. Yes...it needs to go anyways, I guarantee you are getting buildup in that (cold) spot. Just FYI, transition plates are never cheap, and Ventis certainly isn't...but I think you will have to pay the man on this one...hopefully he gives you a good discount on it, help ease the pain a bit.
So, this is the only "option" I've found, stating it will connect the fhino to the ventis. Does anyone know of other options? I realize it seems this company makes both, but seems like if another company made a 6 inch liner, they may have a connection option...?
There are a number of companies that make transition plates...usually to go from flex liner to doublewall chimney pipe (their brand) but I don't know if they'd work on singlewall/rigid liner or not?
What do you currently have from stove collar to cap? Looks minimal. Correct length can have amazing results. likely well worth the investment.
