How often does eveveyone change the hydraulic oil in their splitter? The manual says 100 hours but that seems excessive.

Mine says to change the filter after the first 25 hours and I don't think there is any change interval beyond that.

I'm still running the original junk I put in mine 5+ years ago.

Yup a little leaked out when I changed the valve so I topped it off. But that last it. I believe I purchased it in 09.

Naw, that's not excessive, unless you are running at an extreme high temp, or have some sort of contamination in the oil.
I'd change the filter and run it, unless the oil looks bad for some reason.

time to change mine. 1 because it sat outside for the last 3 winters and 2 because i need to install new valve, might just toss a bigger pump on it also along with the lovejoy. Nothing wrong with either but they are 20+ years old and would hate to go through the mess twice. been about 10 years since the last change and the oil is pretty dark. Doesn't smell burned though.

I meant it seems like an excessively frequent interval, not long.

I’d say get an oil sample kit from caterpillar and send it in for testing before changing it.

$13 includes the mailer to send it in and get the test results.

As long as it doesn't look milky or smell burnt, run it. My splitter has to have around 500 cord through it. It feeds 4 OWBs heating 6 houses for the past 10-12 years. I changed the fluid and filter 1 time, spark plugs and air filter twice, and oil change once a year.

Its about due for a refresh though, down on power and cycles noticably slower.

How many hours do you put on in a year?

Depends on the year. Probably about 50 this year.
