I got a call from a local landowner, asking if I wanted to clear up some downed trees on the farm. Said I was welcome to any dead standing wood also. Was in no rush, I can take my time with working up the wood and clearing the edges of his fields. From what I can tell, it's all Oak not sure if Red or White. I'm figuring it's red because most of the dead standing looks to be from Oak wilt which I'm told affects red oak more than white oak. Jackpot!
Bingo for sure. Not sure if anyone got nominated the "You Suck" award today.. If not.. You certainly get my vote.
The farm lays pretty level. For the most part I'll be able to get the truck to everything, which is nice.
I have a desk job and getting out in the woods running chainsaws / stacking wood / breaking a sweat is therapy. I figure it's a win/win for both of us.
Jackpot! This time of year it is easy to tell the difference between red and white oak. Looking at the leaves, you will notice pointed (red) vs rounded (white).
Jackpot is right. Nice to able to cut at your convenience. Gonna keep you busy for a while. Think your saws are up to the task?
You're pics remind me of our move to the family farm in 1994. Esp the last one. I dropped 20-30 ash into the field just like that. Clipped the tops and, using an old tractor / claw I had, carried the full logs up behind the barns to be CSS. Memories burned in. Can't believe it's been 29 years... Enjoy the loggin therapy Deererainman ...
