I took two rounds on the first load and later a 6' log for the mill. Splits straight and clean and have yet to mill the log. I got backlogged (no pun intended) with rounds at storage (close to 5 cords) and wanted to get some of them split before bringing in more wood. I pulled five half cord loads in six days. As far as i know they are still there. The guy did state i have time but dont know when i will be able to go back. The washout weekend is not helping either, unless i want to cut a load in the rain which i dont.

 

I guess you are going for short boards

 

Id just be interested to see what it looks like when cut.

FWIW I went back to the Chico score in Glastonbury this week. All cleaned up. Oh well I got most of it out. Ended up going to the pallet place a few miles away and bringing a trailer load home.

 

Did you ever get more tulip? Thanks again for the stuff you gave me.

Not a huge priority to get more katsura. If i do ill be sure to save a round or two for you.

Job yesterday was close to storage so ran the splitter out of gas. Maybe half hour. Round stack slowly going down.
Shed slowly filling up with bundle splits

 

Well the rain from the tropical storm was kind of a bust today so i ran the splitter for a couple hours. Mostly drizzle and some sprinkles didnt really bother me as i was under the tree canopy. Id say another half cord split.

yes and no. No tulip from Glastonbury but I went and cut up some blowovers in the woods. Two twin red oaks and two twin Ash. Woops, cut into Them and realized they’re tulips
Sort of bummed they werent ash. They blew over right before the ash borer came through. Off the ground and looking good. Would have been my first “healthy” ash wood. Oh well tulips they are. Even though they’ve been down for years they’re in remarkably good condition. Bark just starting to come off.
The two oaks are about 16” DBH. Got three 12’ logs out of each. Tulip are 12” and got the same three 12 footers out of each. EverytHing above that can stay in the woods.

 

Ive been fooled by tulip before. Didnt think it had a good shelf life though.

 

Probably doesn’t but off the ground they did well. I would have been surprised with either tulip of ash holding up that well.
I’m not certain how long they’ve been down. In the middle of some wetlands on a little dry patch.

 

Kinda weird that fruit trees are some of the best woods.....

 

Just feeling better from a good bout of covid (thanks again to all the well wishers) so havent worked on anything firewood in a couple weeks save for a bundle delivery Wednesday.
Good pile of splits moved to the shed and stacked this afternoon. Before After More splits to move plus over a cord of cherry still to process from this score.

 

Moved the rest of the bundle quality splits today. Couple big wheelbarrows (8 cubic ft) worth. Need to stack the B grade cherry splits then ill split more. At least enough on hand to finish the current row and start another. Shed approaching 3/4 full.

 

Ran the splitter for 45 minutes or so after work yesterday. Round pile going down. Another session and that stack should be done. I have a rack opening soon so more will get stacked.

 

I see my problem. The pic of your cull wood looks like the best of what I cut!

 

All those beautiful stacks. We are finally getting some rain and that means I can start cutting again with the fire danger lessened. Thanks for the Inspiration!

 

Im sure you do the best you can with what youve got. With an abundance of species around, ive turned into a wood snob.
