I grew up in Leominster, we moved to NH in '67. The dam at Barrett Park that overflowed is about 1/2 a mile up the street from where we lived. Down behind the house is a stream that flows down from Barrett Pond. Was always 4-6 ft wide, I'm guessing after the massive overflow it was a river. The section of Mechanic St /Rt 117 that washed out is near where my grandmother's house was.

The whole Leominster/Fitchburg area is very hilly, lots of low areas near rivers that saw flooding and low lying areas that got flooded just from the sheer volume of rain. They got between 9-10 inches of rain from that storm.

Oh, that makes sense. When you said "local HD" I was thinking Concord or Manch in my head.

Grandparents eventually settled in Leominster from Reading, where my mother had been raised. Spent a good deal of time there as a kid and haven't been there in forever.

Some "penny" candy store on route to their house, Whalom Park, and HOJO's stick out in my memories, that and my Grandmothers 66' 2 door Chrysler Newport Convertible with a 440TNT that she had NO business driving...

Whalom park is now the site of a bunch of condos.

As kids we'd ride our bikes over to Whalom Park, a long trek as we lived on the other side of town. Parents would take us to drive-in movies there too. HoJo's and a little Italian spot called the Lazy A were the 2 restaurants we'd go to most of the time.

    ========================================================================================

Last I saw, at some point I can't seem to remember, I was passing through the area for work and stopped to take a look.

I'd heard that it was closed so it wasn't a surprise to see the gate chained, but the trees growing up everywhere kinda hit me. Seemed at the time like it wasn't THAT long ago I was riding that little train around was it?

I've been in this damm chair since 2020 won't change too damm soon, have'um stupid antenna in my leg that goes from hip to knee, too many routers around I get the background music from places like super markets and Uncle Wally's 24/7/365 at least the volume has dropped off as the meds got reduced. I no longer have to wait for whatever is known as TW drops their servers early Wednesday to get some decent sleep. Speaking of TW aka Charter aka Spectrum, got notice today that my service is going to a gig and my price be dropping.

Well so I gotta pay the King his road tax next month, and decided it was long enough overdue to do some upkeep and general PM to my truck.

Fresh synthetic engine oil and gen-U-ine Nissan filter, have them on hand and didn't have a Purolater One like I usually do dang it.
Rotate the ties (should have done it sooner!)
Pulled the rear diff drain plug long enough to clean the magnet off and look for big chunks then top back off.
I was a bit concerned about the transfer case last summer, when I was changing every fluid in the drive train it was pretty dirty so I did it again, and it was much better now ( ie: stop procrastinating)
Greased everything I've replace with parts that HAVE grease fittings.
And a bunch of other puttering that somehow kept me busy for 4-1/2 hours.

So while I was in there I noticed both outer tie rod ends were shot, which explains why I wander all over the road lately. OK no biggie I got them yesterday and put the new ones in today WITH grease fittings, ...and what's this now?... all three exhaust hangers mounted to the frame have fallen apart and the entire exhaust is being held up by the manifold connections?... great, just great.:headbang:

I'll be calling Concord Nissan Monday AM because you know they are dealer items.

Oh yeah, did I mention the front wheel bearings on my lawn tractor decided to do a "unscheduled disassembly" thing on Thursday when the wheel fell off? You know, when I was cutting the grass at the club shooting range and the wheel passed me, and was about 100yd from my truck and trailer, the one with all the tools and stuff? Yeah that one.

I tell ya, ya can't make this stuff up!:D
