Elm yellows, Dutch elm disease, now this. This might be the final nail in the coffin for them. At least we'll still have all those wonderful introduced Siberian elms... It's been reported heavily in Ontario and Quebec. Probably won't take long before it ripples through the entire range of the trees.
There comes a point we have to start asking who benefits the most from the deforestation of the US and Europe. Just sayin.

Yes, all the species from the far east will replace what won't grow here anymore due to all the pests from the far east. Imagine shrubby forests of Japanese maples, all draped in bittersweet vines and wisteria, huge fields of Japanese knotweed lined with living fences made of honeysuckle and Tree of Heaven. Vast expanses of autumn olive mingling with kudzu and paperbark maples...
