This is the first time in many years I’m not buying pellets. Used barely a ton last year. About 3 sitting in the garage.

I have 2 tons left from last year. Not sure if I'll get any this year or not.

Propane went down in price but still expensive. Pellets seem to be still expensive and haven't seen a brand or price that match.

X2 2 tons in the stash. And oil is cheaper than last year. Hope to see the price drop just a little more.

I may do a split of oil and pellets as its about a toss up. Might buy 2 more tons of pellets and 500 gallons of dino juice. Oil at night and pellets during the day??

Hope everyone is still doing efficiency checks on the current prices to make decisions:

Nasty boomers!! Yesterday and today. Doggo no likey!!

Got the sub floor and reflective barrier put down in the spring before it got too hot to work up there. Also got the rafter vents put up so we can put another R21 up. Also going with r21 on the sub floor. So R19+R21+R21 = R61 plus what ever the reflective added? Maybe R2??

Should be enough pink pellets eey???~

Tearing into the front entry lil by lil, Walls are down plus the sub floor is torn up to get some R30 down and foam the sill's. Hope to stop that cold sink. R19 for the walls and a reflective barrier then sheet rock it. I'll stuff R60 in its ceiling too.

Basement had a foam application to the sills and I stuffed R38 rock wool where I could. Looking into some composite panels made to insulate the walls. Those will have to wait till next year! No cash left in the kitty after fuel is purchased for the season(whether its pellets or juice?).

    :makeitrain"

:ithappened:when I find my them! Or I'll take more. Too busy working on chit now! :p Winta's coming!

Haven't seen this in a while, where at current prices (averages), it is cheaper per MBTU to run electric heat than pellets - assuming you have a mini split or heat pump. I was pretty sure that price inversion would happen when they announced the price of electricity was going down quite a bit starting in August (until January). The electric prices in the below are as of September 8, 2023 but the pellet and wood prices are still from June 8, 2023 so those might have gone up a tad since then.

    upload_2023-9-13_3-6-42.png

That is the reason I plan to use the mini split for shoulder season and whenever it makes sense during winter. The pellets I have on hand were a heack of a lot cheaper than what is shown ($350/ton or $7.30/bag), but I I don't know when I can replace them for less than the going price so I might as well make them last. Even during the summer, individuals selling on CL or FBMP wanted $7/bag and I saw up to $10/bag, so I didn't catch any deals.

One would think that this would spell doom for pellets this season, but:
    1. People were buying pellets way before the electric price reduction was announced, because of the extremely high rates we've had for a year or more
    2. Pellets are still less expensive than propane or oil per MBTU
    3. Looking at some of the reports I see coming out, the price of NG (plus its transportation since we don't have pipelines up here) will probably skyrocket in a few month. This affects both direct home heating and electricity production. This may also be true of HHO.
    4. Contracts for NG as electric generation fuel get renegotiated in the middle of winter, about the time I expect NG prices to go way up. NG is about 25% of our power generation. About 30% of the cost of NG is in transportation costs.

From a wood pellet stove supplier. "One ton of wood pellets - approximately 115 gallons of oil" ( its close but there's always a fudge factor due to each of the appliances' efficiency) Hard to get them on the dot. My stove is supposed to be approx 78% and My furnace is supposed to be approx 85%. Plucking these into another calculator has me saving approx $502.50(total over all) burning pellets over smoil.

    Capture.JPG

I went with pellets last season cause smoil was way over $4/gallon. 6 tons total(@ 308/ton) and approx 50 gallons of oil had me at a season total of Just about $2000.00 for the heating season total not counting the oil used. 50 gallons at $2.80/ gallon added in has me at $140.00. = a $2140.00 grand total round aboutish.

So 7 tons of pellets(which actually is short cause we keep the house warmer with pellets and the stove isn't as efficient) is a $1,980 to $2,555 depending if I get BBS or a local pellet dealer stock. I'd do 4($330 each=$1320) cheap and 3($365 each=$1095) good stuff. Total of $2415, But we'll use 7 cheap for giggles $2310.

750 of oil is at $2,812.5 total

I'd really only save about $502.50 ish burning pellets. I'd likely still need to get another half to 1 ton of pellets into the figure!! So I'd likely only save maybe $200 at best. :(

I had to edit this cause oil jumped up to $3.75 and cheap pellets dropped to $330/ton when I wasn't paying much attention. Also pellet delivery fees were not added into the equation. Puts less savings overall in the pellet column. :(

I need to lose some per doc's orders even with doggie walkies added. Brewskis' have been switched to hard seltzers(less cals) and breads/treats are off limits per the new diet. Luckily meds have stayed the same for BP, But my A1C is close to me going on meds that I don't want!

I saw chart, you can keep adding and the relationships need to be paid attention to as they figure into the matching not as much as the dates and places, watch out for present-ism The USA didn't exist until 1776. I am in a discussion with a blood relative about another relative he curates a master profile for a joint relative, his locations are incorrect for the time span. Me gets testy at times I reject a lot of matches because of that with the number of ancestors I have it sometimes take me hours to go through possible matches. Would be happy to turn over a lot of profiles to others. I can screw up enough but i did take geography,U.S. History, and Two European History courses.
