Me too. He declined on cleaning it and will start with new pipe. I'm grateful it didn't catch fire. He called me asking questions since I supplied him dry firewood and he expected good results. Told him something had to be wrong, but I wasn't expecting that.
No worries, not the first, or last time sarcasm is missed on the internet. I pray cash’s family survives another winter.
Not all of us are blessed with abundant oak and cherry so we have to make due with the local species. Just cross our fingers and light up the next pine log.
Was the info of the people that did the “sweep” passed on in in the sale? I’d at least be sending them some pics and a not so friendly message.
Actually I gave him all the shagbark hickory I had left, because he helped me process it way back when. He should have an awesome first experience when he gets up and running. Had to reference a vid to see when that was. Listen to his Husky sing! https://youtube.com/shorts/QZ52SqejtrY?si=l4yQ2RWFqKvdAlkb
He passed it on to his real estate agent but they doubt it went any further than that. I guarantee if the house caught fire something would have been done.
I've done 2 8" liners . Only tip I'll add is once you wrap and then put on the mesh, wrap that with steel piano type wire.
I was wondering if that mesh would snag a lot on the way down. Terracotta is 9x9. We should have lots of wiggle room.
It depends on how much mortar is spooged out between the joints, and if there are offsets in the tiles...the best thing to do is to find a piece of pipe (3-4' long) that is just a bit larger than the finished size of the liner bundle, send it down and see how it fits...sometimes an offending mortar joint can be removed with a heavy bar lowered down to knock it off. The wrapped liner should be about 7.25"-7.5" OD, which can be a bit tight on a typical 8x8" flue, but a 9x9" shouldn't be too bad to deal with.
I had the 8x8, and had to bust the clay liner out to fit the liner down. Pain in the azz, but we’ll worth it in the end
Ugh, hope it is actually 9x9. Time will tell there. Andrew messaged saying the liner barely fit in his civic. And my dad confirmed he had a bunch of extra Rockwool we can use if needed.
