Procured my next score this afternoon. This was one of the trees there. From a distance i thought red maple based on bark and wood color, but on closer inspection its not. Totally got me and not even a guess either.

Well, I had a guess but the app proved me wrong. I'll not spoil it but I will say I've never heard of this one before.

It IS a Japanese tree. Never saw one in person but I’m familiar with them from the interwebs.

Never heard of it. Wonder if any good for firewood? From my inspection the grain looks twisty.

Had to have been planted there. Guy said house built in 1967 so its probable. The last pic is the stump.

According to Wikipedia the autumn foliage smells like cotton candy or burnt brown sugar. That and having mini green banana bunches for seeds qualifies this as an officially weird tree.

After i posted the thread and studied the pics i thought hickory too. If there was no leaves present we'd all be stumped me thinks.

Never heard of that one. Almost looks like a cross between Redbud and Apricot. Thanks for sharing.

I was loading wood at this score today and noticed the groups of trees in the front yard are also katsura.
They limb structure is shaped like a "small bouquet of flowers" is the only way i can describe them. I wouldve said red maple until i looked up and saw the leaves and shape. IMG_4007.JPG IMG_4008.JPG IMG_4017.JPG IMG_4018.JPG
