We had some pretty nasty weather make its way through the last couple days. Still lots of areas without power. Stopped by a friend’s house who is considerably older and not very mobile any more to check in on them. Saw this locust blown over in their yard and they were thrilled that I offered to cut it up and haul it away. Fortunately it blew over in the opposite direction from their barn. Going to make some nice firewood to bring home! Limbed it, cut the tops off and then went to work on the trunks. Going back shortly to finish it off. Going to haul it home later this week when the ground dries out.

Great wood at a great price and a great gesture helping an elderly friend. Score!

That’s a perfect win/win situation! You were able to help someone out and received some heat in exchange. Awesome.

Lots of downed trees in the area. Haven’t made an effort to capitalize on them yet. Too much going on. There were a couple other BL blown down onto the road just down from this place but by the time I was done with this one someone else was working on those.

A hoarders feast in the area im sure.

Three years ago tropical storm Isaias and a small tornado put lots of trees on the ground here. Lots of BL in one area. So i can relate to your situation.

Great thing about BL is its rot proof. It can sit for years and gets better btu wise as it ages. Lots of folks dont know this so if you see them around and no one touched them make a mental note for future scrounge. Ive found decades old stuff like that.

There were some blow overs about 6 or 7 miles from me around my son and daughter in laws place, not at their house but neighbors. I probably could have got some but it headed to the mid 80s today so I passed. Had they really needed help I would have went.

Good on you for helping out a friend. In return, you get excellent firewood.

That's a win for everyone! I can't remember the last time I cut up a BL that was green.

buZZsaw BRAD is so right about BL being rot proof. I have several dry and barkless down in the woods that I consider to be in my "savings" account and will tap into them eventually. Though I did get them off the ground, but that's me being me.

Even better off the ground as they clean up nice over time. My ultimate BL scores are barkless down trees not touching the ground. Some sweet firewood.

I have some savings accounts too. Basically a list of dead or clean up wood. Some is not easy to get but with BL it comes with the territory.
