After several pulls in attempting to start, the saw seized. Cannot pull the cord. Thoughts on how to free up the saw.

Is the chain loose to move by hand?

Try to start without the bar and chain on.

What make and model? How old? Last used?

Sounds like a Husqvarna. Jk simmer down. Sometimes those hanging curves are irresistible. Jokes on me if it’s Stihl. Have a nice weekend. Hope your new saw is not seized.

I agree with Mike, remove bar and chain and see if you can pull the cord. If not, are you able to pull the recoil/starter cover to see if the pawls are messed up? After that.. sometimes a screw can get lodged in/around/behind that flywheel which will stop it from turning. Look for that. IF all that was fine, next step for me would be pulling the muffler off the saw to look at the condition of the piston.

I would guess myself that it is not seized and there is something else wrong ; recoil?
Can't imagine that it would seize from just pulling the rope. That cylinder would have had to been extremely dry to lock up.

Take bar and chain off and try, as others said. If that doesn't free it up take the starter assembly off and see if you can turn it over using a wrench on the flywheel nut.

Does it have a decomp button. If not pull the spark plug then try to turn it over.
May be vapor locked if it flooded out.

Bunch of Koolade drinkers in here. :loco:

Pretty sure he bought an Echo not long ago so hopefully there’s a warranty to lean on.

Yeah there's no way you seized the piston in the cylinder by pulling the cord. Even if you were pulling like a madman with straight gas in it that wouldn't happen. Seizing takes heat/friction. Unless the ring broke... But others gave you solid advice previously. Start with the easy stuff and go from there.

Thanks all, fixed it. The main cause/fix was the spark plug. Removed, and it turned over. Started up.

I was curious on that too. Spark plug typically doesn’t make a saw seize.
