    Hi Guys -

So I mentioned in the square filing thread that I popped my recoil on my 572. Rather than clutter up that thread with non related material, I started a new thread.

I got into the recoil last night and I think I'm missing a couple of pieces out of it when it let loose. On the top picture, you can see where the recoil assy housing broke where the threaded bosses are. There was a single metal pin floating around in the cover, which was pretty bent, and no sign of the second one. It looks like from partstree.com that those pins come with the replacement assy.

Would there be any reason to replace the pawls from the second picture or do they look ok? Any trick to taking all this apart and getting back together?

    thanks!!

You shouldn't need to replace the pawls on the flywheel. The recoils on these 572's are not strong enough...IIRC, they are the same as the 562. You need to replace item #4

*Edit - just saw that this 572xp was ported by huskihl ... definitely need to be using the decomp when you start or you will just keep breaking that hub on the recoil.

I think Kevin mentioned the cover might have been screwed down with the pins on top of the pawls.

When putting any recoil cover on, best practice is to pull the rope as you do to let those parts settle where they should, then tighten screws.

Yep, stock saws are hard enough on recoils, ported saws are a different animal. Always use the decomp. YOU may be able to start the saw without it, but the recoil can't. With the movement to more and more plastic parts, we need to be careful and pay attention to how hard we yank on stuff.

    Thanks Guys -

Ordered a new recoil assy. I've never had the recoil off before this, so I can't comment on where the pins were in relation to the pawls, but I'll when doing the reassembly, try pulling the rope as a I settle the cover back onto the saw.

I am guilty of not using the decomp. In fact, I didn't use it hardly at all until this past spring when I hurt my shoulder at the gym. Stupid military press... :faint: Didn't realize there was so much plastic in there.

Joe, if you haven’t had the recoil assembly off before, then your pawls aren’t pushed down, so that’s good. I just had another 572 with recoil issues, and the owner had tightened the four screws without wiggling the rope, and bent the pawls down towards the flywheel. When he replaced the pulley, it broke again almost instantly due to added leverage on the pulley posts. So that was why I inquired with you about it.

Those pulleys are $16-18 on eBay and I’d order a couple to have as spares.

When starting, you might try pulling the rope lightly to seat the pawls first, and start it from that position, as opposed to letting the rope fully retract and going full bore from there

Just replaced the starter pulley on my Husk 562xp. The part number your looking for is 505158101 , $12.99 at the local dealer.
This pulley also fits the Husk 560xp and Jonsered 2260.

Lol. I'm the guy who Kevin is referring to with a 572xp he ported having recoil issues. Kevin's helped me every step of the way with it and even put a 390xp decomp in it to help lessen the strain on the recoil pins. He's a good man, builds a great saw and I can absolutely attest to the fact he stands behind his work...
