Its really sad to hear this, I know what you're going through and it is really tough because we love our pets so much and you don't want to lose them
Update: Went to the vet yesterday. The good news is that she only changed 1 lb from 6 years ago, but at 109 lbs. Which he'd like her to be down a little lower, but she's just big bone structured. The joints are in pretty good shape for her age, but its her lower back (last two vertebrae) that causing the issue. Basically he put to me as a si-actic (sp?) in humans. Where the vertebrae are starting to fuse together. We are going to see how she responds to some pain and inflamoritary medicine first. Then we can go from there. But lastnight she looked a little better especially in her eyes and seem to rest peacefully.
Here's to hoping the meds are really working and not just masking. Been there 3 times over a 5 year period, boy it really sux watching these family members get old. Prayers and thought for a reasonable recovery. And as Rotti said, TLC and enjoy her
Having her reasonably comfortable must have made you feel better too. Here's to pain-free days ahead...
My lab has a lot of arthritis, so so I, I also get bouts of sciatica, Those episodes last a while, but eventually do go away. Prednisone really helps, but you can't stay on that med except when it is low dose and have run out of options. I would try to keep your dog from running fast or jumping, rough play with other dogs. They will exceed their limits and pay for it for days afters. Low dose aspirin seems to help my big boy, that and cosequin. So my big boy and I are both overweight, both have a bum leg, and some discomfort, however, there is still much ahead for us. I use a cane, he uses ramps.
That's good news Chvy! Don't know how those meds affect a large dog but one my little dachshund they would give him the diarrhea. So watch out!
That is good news coming from the vets office. In a lot of cases it's the big C ( with my breed ) and I'm glad your news has none of that. Let the meds do it's work and hopefully you can enjoy each more other as long as it lasts.
This stuff works great Chvy.. Hope things are going good with Daisy Mae. http://www.boehringer-ingelheim.ca/en/animal_health1/small_animal_products1/metacam.html Murphy was only 2 when he got himself into a load of health problems but i wouldnt give up. Dropped another grand on him the day after i had to carry the knucklehead into the house and then i finally knew it was that time.
