My 660 didn't stay stock long. I agree if you're cutting 20" wood or less go with a 460/1 or smaller.

A woods lifted 660 is way different than the stock 660

660 is a great saw. For wood that is was designed for. Under 25"? I wouldn't want to carry the unnecessary weight all day. If your bucking 36" logs? Then that 660 is the machine for the job.

I'd bet that 461 gives your 660 a run for its money in wood. Same log. Same bar, same chain.

I agree but HP = speed....torque x rpms being part of the formula. Not doubt, the 660 has more torque than the 461. I can adjust my rpms close to the 461 also. Both ported saws are awesome and more than I'll ever need for homeowner firewood cutting.

Last time I ran my ported 660 was a little over 3 hours and only taking breaks for refueling and adding bar oil. I use a 28" bar and isn't that heavy to me.

Agreed. . Neither is better than the other. They both have their respective spots in life. Both awesome saws! ! :dex:

    I wouldn't kick either out ;)

Thats a bit exadurated what I said but its deffinitly heavier than other saws I have. I cut 2 rangers and 2 trailers of wood a few weeks ago mostly with the 650 but a tank with the 372. The wood loading is touched than the saw

The real work starts after you turn off the saw! I've heard that a few times and it's true. Splitting wood with a hand maul will get you in shape quick. I'm glad my Dad taught me those skills when I was younger. Hopefully I'll get to pass on those skills to someone. My wife and daughters just want a warm fire. That's OK they're all wonderful.

At these events, what type of chain do you use? Racing chain? Square chisel?

I won with off the loop Stihl chain. Nothing special. No idea what others used. Didn't care. I wanted my saw to win. Not my chain.

Look at the Square filing thread here. You'll see I want to buy some of those guys chains, because I want to see what a race chain should look like. I am not a good chain master... That is one skill I want to improve on. A LOT! !

When I bought my 660 it came with a full skip square chisel. It took me a while before I found the right file, Vollarbe flat file-six sided, to sharpen that chain. Those square chisel chains seem to stay sharper longer. I'm working on my sharpening skills with those square chisels.

When I asked I was wondering if it was going to be a 488. Dang, I was hoping it was in a corner of the garage collecting dust. Well if the neighbor ends up not wanting to fool with it, I would happily make a home for it. You should be very happy with the big jump in displacement over the 488.

Well....glad I took all of the advise I got here. The dealer was great to me! Gave me a FULL refund on the 391. I couldn't be happier.

Now I have to get it broken in good, then decide what I want to do for mods!!!!!
