Pellet heads!! What's up today?

The Contoocook is not as high as I've ever seen it in Hillsboro (in 35+ years), but it is still super high (nearly to the bottom of the bridge at the rt 101 intersection). But, at the same time, the highest it got was 12.4' so still at minor flood stage.

 

I like that color. Looks pretty much like sandstone - which is waht my front storm door is..

 

Flood sale at the Ford dealership maybe? The bridge in Henniker must be pretty close now also.

Not too familiar with anything past Hillsboro, is there any sort of flood control further up?

 

There are small dams but several of them had to be opened wide as they were in danger of failing. Not sure any of them were specifically designed for flood control. They are nothing like the one in Hopkinton.

Hillsboro Ford just moves the vehicles when it gets high there - they have the Dodge/Jeep dealership just a mile or two down the road, or they can use the parking lot across the street where the liquor store is.

 

Cats and I were watching it. They tried to chase a couple flashes.

 

Basement company came in this May and jackhammered the inside perimeter to install their special underground gutters and a new sump pump system. Part of the package was a dehumidifier that does a fantastic job, and smells so much better. Set on 57% to prevent bacteria, musty stink.

Timing was pretty much ideal with all the rain lately, basement would have been constantly flooding during/after heavy rain otherwise, not a drop to be seen now.

They did a decent job other than the plumbing and electrical. There are actually two pumps, they were crooked, not sitting flat and a bunch of pressure on the pvc pipes and drain, so it was just a failure waiting to happen.
Also it leaked anyways, so I rearranged, removed a couple extraneous elbows and put in sweep L's (fluid dynamics 101) a vacuum relief valve to prevent back flow, and the electrical was just awful. Somehow they even managed to break the entire face off one of the two dedicated 20A outlets I put in for the system.

One of those projects that makes an absolute enormous wreck of everything, but once it's done it looks like it was no big deal. I got it all straightened out thoughand cleaned up, so I guess that's what matters. But the timing to have it done was spot on!

 

Your timing was definitely spot on for getting that project done. Too bad you had to go back and redo some of the work yourself - there is just no good reason you should have to do that giving them money to do it right in the first place.

 

Wow tornado warning for the Manchester NH area, just expired. But another storm with a tornado warning coming up from the Lowell MA area is now heading into the Pelham, Windham & Salem NH area. If it follows it's current track it should stay west of us in Kingston.

Humidity is brutal today. Went out to do food shopping and it felt like getting a soggy, warm, damp blanket tossed over me. Glasses fogging up when going in & out of car & stores.

I'm spoiled or surprised really.
I flew all over the country installing industrial production machinery and service work for decades. The sales rep usually went with me for a new install, or showed up during it and stayed to help out and answer questions. After the install we would go back numerous times to fix any issues, address concerns and train.

The labor came in did what they did and left before the concrete had set-up, so I had to babysit that a few hours also. That aside they did pretty well with the dirt work. laying the drains and cleaning up.

What they really need is a guy like me to show up near completion to do the finer tech work. The guys running the shovels can perhaps glue pvc together, but obviously have no idea the hows or whys. None of them had any business whatsoever touching anything electrical.

I agree, with the cost of it I had fully expected at least a follow visit from the sales guy, but nothing? Really? Pretty unprofessional in my opinion.

Torrential downpour right now, NWS has whole state under a tornado watch till 3pm. With the ground so saturated trees will be easier to topple if hit with high winds.

Torrential downpours most of Sunday with a few tornado warnings. Town next to mine, Alton NH was hit hard. Many damaged roads.

An area of rte 140 that was washed out years ago from a failed dam was washed out again yesterday. This is a high use road so will impact travel.

At least this time there were no injuries/deaths or lost homes.
