Rose of Sharon are about to explode. This is Jimsonweed. Severely poisonous and invasive but we are trying to keep it contained to this one narrow place. About to bloom. And a beetle that was near it.
No i haven't thought of that. Of course if I did that, I would have to create a new flower bed and I'm just not into that right now as I have other projects. But, that is something to keep in the back of my mind
Planted these Limelight hydrangeas around the back deck at a rental house. These are severely underrated bushes in my opinion. They're easy to grow, make great hedges and produce beautiful huge blooms.
I had a Limelight at my last house and it always did well. If it gets a decent amount of shaed, the blooms reallly do start out green, then just keep changing colors from there.
If memory serves, Jimsonweed is also credited with the myth of werewolfism… it’s a horrendous hallucinogen- and of course poisonous as stated above.
We pay attention if the dog is near. I read that stuff too. Hopefully won’t turn into one growing it. The blooms are very cool to watch. Yesterday’s: This was taken at 8:03p: And then 8:31p: Is this something I shouldn’t really grow, because of the poisonous thing(or any other bad ju-ju)? One of my sons friend’s grandmother grows it. He saw it and said something to grandma that his parents would probably like it, so she gave him plastic bag full of the seed pods. First time we grew it was last year, that’s when I read the weird stuff.
IMO people get too excited about "poisonous" plants. I've never had a cat or dog get sick or die from just being around the long, long list of plants that are said to be poisonous/toxic to them. People are way more likely to ingest a random plant that causes harm than pets or wildlife. So relax and enjoy it.
I believe this is tall phlox The one tiger lily the voles missed The Rose of Sharon is cranking up. Heavy rains tonight will bend the branches out. It'll need to be pruned this fall. The top 4ft, usually.
A combination of full blossoms, heavy downpours, and a need to be pruned, has change my Rose of Sharon into an umbrella bush.
