Cleaned up a maple that fell back in the spring and noticed a pine that fell sometime this summer bucked to ~5' and drug them out with my newly invented log chokers - old shovel handle and some cheap rope.
Haha your dog is digging the smell of that pine! Can't blame em. I've never used it for firewood - thought it was a no-no before I came here. But I love how the workshop smells after making some sawdust out of it.
I have so many beetle kill pines it's hard to just let them sit there and rot as 100's currently are. noticed another one after I had this one drug out of the woods. It hasn't been dead long, still has brown needles - I'll let it stand seasoning for another year Pine is great for reloads and knocking the chill off, I wouldn't drive anywhere to get it though
I'm thinking about trying some out. According to the Chimney Sweep's BTU chart, the red pine I have is better than the poplar that I'm going to burn this year. It's even slightly higher than the silver maple that's going to be 1/2 of my main fuel supply!
Looks great! I've processed a lot of maple lately and really like it. I need it too with its quick drying for 15/16.
I have to give a bit of credit for the log chokers to @Backwoods Savage he was pushing the log tongs in my last white oak pile - I started scratching my head to make something. The way I figure it the logs pull/twist as you drag them, having them suspended by ropes(very easy to hookup/remove) takes the strain out of your wrists. They aren't log tongs just for the longer, easier to transport smaller rounds
With a former herniated L5 S1, not strong, just smahtah, less raising the wood and more walking. I wouldn't try these with anything over 8"

Nice stacks Basod... I think the pine is a great idea for starting fires and should season or just getting the stove fired up after a long overnight burn. I like to have softer wood around for the same reasons.. Did I mention the stacks look great?
Your stacks have been growing pretty fast lately. Keep the pics coming . Dry that pine 2 years & give it a try. Spruce here seems to burns hotter & longer after 2 years seasoning. Nice idea with the choker with a handle. May give it a try & keep one or 2 in the wood cutting bucket .
