I like to eat sauer kraut. Not really for the taste but for the benefits/good bacteria. I used to put some in my mashed potatos and it was decent...no need for additional salt. I have since curbed potatos substantially on the advice of my urologist and lost my way to 'sneak' sauer kraut into my body. Aside from the obvious...what dishes do you incorporate kraut into or eat with? Looking for ideas. Actually wondering if I can add a bit of it to a salad without ruining it. Running short of ideas otherwise. I don't hate the taste, but not really a fan either. I also drink cups of green tea that I don't like...cause 'they' say it's good for you.
Well obviously there is the obvious, hot dogs , kielbasa you know. Not really sure what else you could pair it with. Wonder if there is a homemade kraut you could do that might have a better taste for you. I don’t mind it myself but some of the store bought is better than others. I prefer more of a crunchy texture and not mushy like you might get in a can. Do a small salad and try it. You never know.
Pierogis and sauerkraut...I won't eat it, but a lot of other of us Polish folks do Sauerkraut balls are good, even I will eat those. Kind of like a hushpuppy if you've never heard of them.
I know you guys will think I’m nuts but I love a sauerkraut sandwich. Rye bread, German mustard & sauerkraut. That’s it.Sometimes I’ll add some fried onions but most times just the kraut. Of course you have to drain the sauerkraut first so you don’t wind up with soggy bread. Delicious!!!!
Sneak some into a smoothie ? Or meatloaf ? I used to clean out the fridge somewhat when I made meatloaf. Pizza topping.
I'm liking the pizza topping idea. Problem is that I don't eat much pizza these days. Definately will try though.
I prefer kraut's spicy cousin kim chi. If you are eating kraut for the "healthy bugs" don't cook it....cooking it kills all of them.
Nope, always stirred into some mashed taters after microwaving. I'd do the same with pizza...add after cooking.
I like the Frank's Bavarian style. I eat it cold right out of the can or cooked with hotdogs or sausage as mentioned.
The Polish community here in CT is very large. I think some of the best pierogis I've had were covered with sauerkraut.
Elm-er Fudd was just talking about canning kraut in another thread. I like kraut on pizza with Canadian bacon.
That, my friend, is no longer a pizza. Thats flat circular dough with stuff on it that don't belong. Lol
I suppose you don’t like pineapple with Canadian bacon on pizza either… A little marinara sauce, some bacon, some cheese, some kraut & of coarse more bacon, on thin crust, if you want bread eat a sandwich.
