I shot some great old pistols A Blackhawk bisley .44 mag and a beretta 92s I lined up a Ruger ar15 for a guy He did ok at a 100 meters he'd never shot a rifle with a scope before I shot his sd9 smith it shot good just a bit heavy trigger a lot better than the 90s sigmas I've shot.
My new custom McGowen 6ARC barrel finally arrived this past Wed. Finished up yesterday and still have a couple things that need (ok want) to change, but otherwise fully operational. Lots of unseen changes that should make a big difference. Only other big change is a dedicated lower so I don't have to swap stuff around and mess up harmonics.
Aim small miss small... Actually got a smokin' deal at Euro Optic, it was a "floor demonstrator" or something like that at a couple hundred less than brand new. Came with the caveats of may show signs of handling and the box may be imperfect (GASP) but if it had been handled, I couldn't tell. I figured if it was truly a lemon I'd send it back to Athlon for warranty and still be ahead, but no such luck.

Well long time, long time. Projects had taken over including having a basement water place come in and jackhammer aroun the entire inside perimeter and put in their special plastic underground gutters. Nice new sump pump system and dehumidifier to boot.That little episode turned into a full rearrange of walls and remodel of the basement to remove the old mouse infested walls and fiberglass. Surgery on my foot 2 weeks ago, and today 7 tons of pellets were delivered. ...gimme a break!.... SO I WENT SHOOTING! I finally figured out my feeding problem and today was the first time I actually got to concentrate on shot placement. I did manage going enough earlier to break-in the barrel per McGowen instructions, while ripping what's left of my hair out because of the feeding issues. 2in dot with 1in circle at 100 yard, shot (6) 10 round groups with a quick clean after the first 30. Second to last group, first 6 rounds through the same ragged hole, and the naturally I (don't choke don't choke) ...choked... progressively worse... I blame it for being 98f in the sun according to my truck, but now at least I know my creation is capable, my load is close enough for now, until I get better at my job.

How are the athlon scopes? I've not had the occasion to view one. I have scopes ranging from Taco / Simmons up to Nightforce Competition / Vortex Golden eagle. My main go to, for more affordable but quality glass, is SWFA for all around shooting. Vortex will begin to fill in some of this area as well now that Nikon stopped scope production. I used to be Leupold guy but moved away from their mushy feeling turrets, not returning to zero after dialing for elevation or windage and having had to send nearly every one in for service not caused by abusive handling. I still have one on a CZ 17 hornet varmint rifle but I'll replace it eventually and move it to 22lr if I keep it or maybe a PCP air rifle.
I have an athlon scope and I think it is a pretty nice scope. But my previous glass were all cheap so this is my first "nice" one. I am not disappointed.
Like others have said, it is my first "good scope" so I was really happy with it, the etched reticle was and still is a game changer for me. It's an Argos 6-25x50, FFP MIL, the 30mm tube is plenty sufficient for the distances I have available. Now that I've had it a while I've found the glass's weakness at 20-25X, gets pretty cloudy around the edges. sight picture and eye position gets tiny at 25X, at least for me anyway. Still it works as the most I've been using is 16X. I do think I'll box it up next winter and have them go over it and give it a tune-up or whatever they do. I've been doing some wishful browsing for another better one and wouldn't hesitate buying another Athlon. However, I did get to look through a another club members Meopta and it was crystal clear all the was to the edge. He used to work at a store here that's gone now, but back in the day it was THE place to go and people even came from out of state for the gunsmith dept. he told me Meopta used to make the scopes for Zeiss, and they're made in Czech Republic glass and all. That crystal clear to the edge thing really started getting me thinking. I really would like to settle on one brand instead of jumping around though, I'll see maybe next winter when it's stare out the window season.
In 40+ years of shooting, I’ve never had an issue with a scope that wasn’t “self-induced”. Last year I had one of their scopes decide to just have a turret come loose from the body. it took 3 times mailing it back to them to get them to send a replacement scope. when your main “selling feature” is your warranties…. yeah … no thanks.
This Golden eagle is our first Vortex. It's on my wife's 22ppc competition rig. Not enough time on it to see if it holds up but the glass is excellent.
Sounds like my luck with Leupold except none were my doing. That said they were always fixed correctly the first time around. One, the power selector wouldn't turn once clamped in the rings, another had the cross hairs come loose.....on a 204, and the other an internal lens chipped when tightening the rings down. The last two above were Veri X III 6.5-20 target scopes. And no, I wasn't using a breaker bar to tighten the rings lol. I use a Wheeler Fat Wrench torque driver to set the rings to recommend specs.
