A month or so ago the guys at our men's group were plannig to clean up the log deck at a sportsmen club after the loggers moved out. Since i live close, they asked if i wanted a load.... well yea, i can't turn down free wood delivered... So i got a text Thursday that it was happening and i gave them the address. They sent me a pic of the delivery and moved on and made 5 other deliveries. Today i get another text (to the group) watch out for copperheads, one of the other guys found a copperhead in his pile while cutting. Naturally i told him I'd bring the copperheads back to him if i found any.
Proof pic The log on the right i cut today with the 066 and a 25" bar just got through it. Should be about 2 cords.
I don't mind snakes at all. It's the surprise of discovery that gets me sometimes. My BIL sent me a vid of him picking up and relocating a rattler a few weeks ago. His wife gave him crap because they live way out in the sticks and said it would take a good wile to get him anti-venom should an accident occur. A pic of his I believe 14yr old son holding a black snake.
I don't mind snakes but I'm always on the lookout for them in the wood piles this time of year. We really only have to deal with rat or hog nose snakes but there are timber rattlers in this area. Thankfully we don't encounter them often.
and they can have a lot of attitude as well, this pair were in north central Pennsylvania. They are part of a large colony that has lived there for quite a number of years.
We see snakes here often. We have a little stream that crosses our front yard (usually runs about a foot wide and 2-3" deep) and a little swamp beside our property. So we see lots of snakes, black snakes, garter snakes, water snakes, and the last 3 years we're hearing stories of rattlesnakes, and this year a copperhead siting from neighbors. (I don't/won't believe the venomous snake stories till i see them myself). Black snakes shake their tale like a rattlesnake, and water snakes look a LOT like a copperhead. I saw this cute little guy yesterday. Had to do a double-take just to make sure after the copperhead warning...
Miss July saw this little fella a couple weeks ago. This is the first snapping turtle we've seen in 30 years here.
