Any Bird watchers here?

This is a bird feeding thread Warner. The bear feeding thread is separate.

would be my reaction seeing one in our yard. Although in 2009 one did come through the yard. Her oldest daughter got pics. I wasnt living here yet.

 

Rose breasted grossbeaks are regulars here in the warm weather. Got these two males facing forward and they didnt fly away by the time i got the camera. I had only seen them once or twice before they became regulars here a few years ago. Zoomed pic while raining so not sharp. While im taking the pics the hummingbird buzzed in to feed. Blurry pic from zooming.

 

We've seen a grosbeak now and then. I wish they'd stick around.

 

They are migratory. Return late April into May. There song is a common sound here

We love to sit on the porch and watch the feeders. We have several around the house. We also have a bald Eagle nest on the back of the property that we can see from the deck. Ver cool to see them raise the babies each year. They are going on year 8 here in this tree. I will dig up some photos.

 

Couldnt figure out what was wrong with this purple/house finch on the feeder. I walked out right up to it and nothing. It was sleeping. Came back in and got the camera.

 

Used to seeing chipmunks and squirrels forage the seeds on the ground. This wood chuck (groundhog) has been showing up in the last couple weeks.

Didnt see its shadow so does that mean an early Winter???

 

A groundhog! Vermin!!

Send it to Gobblers Knob. They like 'em there.

 

Thought maybe could be our mascot.

 

Not mine! Them critters eat the wrong things in my perennial bed. Never mind the tunneling.

 

That's not a half-bad idea. How's Chuck for a name?

Anyone still feeding the hummingbirds? Ours are eating as much or more now than they have all summer. Maybe some are migrators?

They are still coming to the feeders here.

 

I have called them Chuck or Chuckie before. Incorporate a woodchuck into a FHC logo?

Personally i prefer a beaver to a woodchuck!

 

Woodchuck on one side, beaver on the other. Chuck and Bucky! Can you roast beaver? Maybe not cook them but just kinda pick on them and tell jokes at their expense!

 

Our feeder is still up and they are here daily. The yellow jackets are swarming the thing drinking away and they empty it quick. Woodpeckers still show up to drink too. Once hummers no longer show we'll take it down and switch back to the suet. Usually the first couple cold days.

Regular feeder stays supplied for most of the year. Just sunflower seed in it.

 

Woodchuck/groundhog/marmot/ground squirrel etc a useless plant eater Trap and use extreme prejudice in disposal. Shoot on sight or incorporate into a Brunswick Stew
