If I'm understanding this wording correctly (it's confusing), the 1 cord is a loose tossed amount of firewood in a 128 cubic feet box. Based on experience, you lose almost 20-25% by throwing loose vs. stacking. Confusing for the average buyer. In reality, you're receiving 3/4 of a cord and paying for 1 cord.
This ad is code. The de-coded message says runaway. High priced and no way to be sure of how much you will get in any given load. A stacked cord is the only way to know by measuring that you get a cord, and that each repeat load is a cord. I can cut and toss specifically to make a load look huge but stacking loss will be 30+% and I’m not a seller with a financial interest. Most states have something similar to what FarmerJ has posted. Check for your state. Owl
Are you looking to buy some wood? How does it compare with other woosellers in the area? If you prefer to buy from this company, then offer 75% of what they're asking.
A tossed cord should be by rights 160 cubic feet most anywhere. I don’t know what the market is like in your area, but it appears the seller is being dishonest by using a 128 cubic foot stacked cord definition to sell a lesser volume thrown cord. I wouldn’t pay that around here for a 128 cf tossed cord.
Its very deceiving with the way some wood sellers list and sell their product. I see it often around here. Buyer beware! I mostly sell half cords (the most i can take in my F150) which are loose thrown into my truck, BUT from a premeasured stack which is 64 cubic feet. Having been making firewood for many years my split size is consistent so i can actually count splits if not from a measured stack. Half cord is 350-400 pieces, 16" long. I figure 15% air space in the stack. There was a thread about this a couple years back. More often than not customers marvel at the volume. "the other guy was ripping me off" is a common reply once i unload. Underseasoned wood is another very common complaint.
Deception at its best! Nothing new from Craigslist or fly by night firewood sellers. I got leary reading the add when they went into telling how it'll save you money on your energy bills. A good product will sell itself unless it's somehow a scam. Perfect example above.
Many years ago I sold a cord of wood and I delivered it in two pickup truck loads. When I showed up with the second load the guy said "I really only wanted one cord". I explained a cord won't fit in a pickup without sides and he was blown away that he was being ripped off for years.
I'm not buying wood, I'm selling as a side hustle. But I do like looking at the market and prices being charged. This particular company seems to be selling in the Denver metro area and is a reasonable price if you're actually getting a cord.
I'm building 1/2 cord pallets so I stack it and then toss loosely into my truck. I take a photo of the stacked 1/2 cord in case any questions are asked. But as ScrewLoose mentioned, most times people are shocked at the real volume of a cord.
Correct, although I have family in the Fort Collins area and am often looking for "free" wood I can scrounge during a visit. In my area, a cord of pine ranges from $210-300 delivered.
Good job! Exactly how i do it. Ive even included pics with a tape measure showing dimensions and that has helped it sell it too.
