So I mentioned in my other thread that I have begun a branch trimming 'campaign'. That just means it's time to go police the branches that grow out into the main trails looking for sunlight. Many moons ago, this was done with a machette and nothing else. It advanced to lopping shears and eventually to a pole pruner. I 'got onto' Fiskars products fairly early on after buying a set of their Powrgear loppers and realizing the design superiority and quality. The pole pruner is a Fiskars Pruning Stik. It has served me faithfully for at least a decade and clearing branches from the trails is it's main chore. I've gotten adept enough with it that I can most times, cut a branch and grab it again with the jaws allowing me to use the Stik to hurl it off the trail. It also works as a grabber tool for stuff laying on the ground. Indexable head means you can angle it for cutting stems at ground level also. I made exactly 4 cuts with it then on the fifth I heard a snap sound that could only be one thing. Yep. Blade snapped right off. I'm not upset about it. This thing has earned a 'brake'. Just submitted a warranty claim to Fiskars and will wait to see what they say. I know many of you are Fiskars fans as well. I may be a fanatic. lol Current inventory aside from the above consists of their: Shovel, post hole diggers, bow rake, hatchet, several lopping shears, scissors, maul, splitting axe and a shrub rake. I do own other hand tools, but really like the Fiskars stuff. Warranty helps. I was just wrecked when it snapped. I had literally just been espousing it's merits to my buddy who had offered some help. Job kinda went to crap as all we were left with was one pair of loppers. Brakage not witholding I would highly recommend the Pruning Stik. Great tool if you have need!
Wife saw my Fiskar pole saw and bought the pruning shears (set of 2) from Costco.. I have to buy my own set now.. my wife is known to steal tools and those are HERS!!
They have the same old same old "we're sory, but we are very busy and your claim may take a few weeks to process" thing in their submission email.. I'm confident that they will come through eventually. In the mean time, I need to trim stuff still so I purchased the shorter, non-extending version of the tool from HD for $40. I don't often need to extend the other one, but it's sure nice sometimes.
They wanted some additional photos, so I obliged last night. Got this email this morning. Back in business soon! 'Thank you for contacting Fiskars. We will send a new blade for your pruning stik. Attached are the instructions you will need for re-threading your stik with the new part. Your replacement will ship within 5-7 business days. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Sincerely, Carly Fiskars Brands Inc'
I'd be pretty hurt if they didn't take care of me on this. Honestly this is my first ever claim. A friend has managed to break a couple of their tools and they fixed him up.
I have the pruning stik that extends from 8 to 12 feet. It's gotta be around 25 years old. I need it to prune about 200 feet or so of hemlock hedge. I found it while cleaning a bench in my father's garage after he passed in 2004. He had taken the pruner off and put the saw on and then couldn't figure out how to get the pruner back on and working. It took me a while but I fianlly figured it out. I have no intention putting the saw back on if I can at all help it, it is kinda a PITA to swap.
