Hello all, it took a little searching but I found this new site, it's good to see all the familiar names here. I got a question about a saw I stumbled upon and I curious what it is? Anyone know what it is and what its worth?
That's either a Stihl 07S or 08S, it's an oldie but a goodie.....heavier saws, I don't know the CC or the value off of the top of my head, but if it's a runner, it'd be a beast of a saw.... How much are they asking for it? Also, their aren't any safety brakes on those older saws. But they are some well-built machines.....
Yep 07 or 08. Pretty much a wall hanger/shelf queen. Cool saw to run at a gtg, but I wouldn't run her as a daily driver. Value = what you wanna pay for it as a decoration/novelty. I don't think it's real rare. Check Mike Akers site maybe? A C
Not an 07 but could be an 08, 08-s, or S10. (The S10 is sometimes referred to as an 510 but is an "S" not a "5" & cam in both a top handle & rear handle configuration.) The S10 was the home owner's version of the 08. I can't see the muffler. The S10 top handle frequently came with a cast aluminum muffler while the 08s came with stamped steel mufflers. This just my observation on the mufflers, not a determining factor. If you look at the other side of the saw the model number will either be molded into the oil reservoir or will be on a stamped plate riveted to the tank. This power head was used to power many different attachments. (Drills, post augers, cutoff saw TS-350, ...) If an early version of the S10 it would be 48cc. Later versions & the 08s were 56cc. They came with .404 chain & typically ran a 16" bar. At 7,000 rpm they have a lot of torque. I have two 08-S & two S10s I use regularly. I use a 25" bar on one of the 08s without any problems. It oils it well. That is still a very useable saw & has surprisingly a low vibration considering everything is rigidly mounted. No trigger interlock, kill switch, or chain guard on handle = 1960's model. (Slide the chock to "I"/on/rearward to kill it.) That saw if not repainted has not had many hours on it. If the piston is not scored, it would sell on Ebay for $350 - 600.
Looking closer at the photo, I believe it is a cast aluminum muffler so my guess would be an S10. The boot for the spark plug is probably not original. The boot at that time covered the whole spark plug.
Hell I'd have some fun with it for a while then think about selling it.Though it might be difficult the longer I kept it....
