Well its Memorial day weekend. The start of Summer. Picnics, grilling, the beach, vacations are in the works. jrider is hard at work building his inventory. Wood has been cut, split and stacked and is waiting for the cold to return. Thoughts of making firewood far from the average hoarder. Well, as most of you FHCers know, im not your "average" hoarder. :loco:

With my ongoing shed build i have room for several cords. The hot weather doesnt stop me from gathering (sounds more politically correct than scrounging) more wood to fill it. Not having any scores in the works, i will browse FBM as well as grab a score when it arises (and i have the time and energy) and work on filling it.

So FHC how much will i scrounge between now and Labor day? Take the survey. I have a number in mind but wont reveal it, nor am i going to stress over trying to meet it. Feel free to add your comments on making firewood in the Summer as well.

Got 17-20 cord on the ground already and can easily double that if I want to. Really comes down to my own gumption and keeping motivated. Loads knows I’m over distracted.

I’m guessing 6-7 for you, unless we get hit with tornadoes/tropical cyclones. Then all bets are off :)

Well, unfortunately its not that easy for me. Luck of the score and FBM mostly here.

Thinking I’ll take a little break from scrounging wood (gathering is for sticks :) ) and build a Grizzly bar outfeed table for the splitter. Some improvements to the conveyor. Beyond that there’s at least 20 cord on the property to bring home. And a few really nice scores close to home I can’t let pass ;)

Most of our lot is ash. And it’s need hit hard so it all has to come down.:headbang:

we’ve been talking about it and want to replace it with a lot of silver and scarlet maples. Maybe some oaks, hickory etc.

but even oak wilt is hitting the county hard.

my goal is to have 40-50 cord split and piled to let it sit for 25/26 heating season

I’m going to have to admit, I have absolutely no idea how many cords I WILL scrounge. I PLAN to scrounge zero cords.(not an option in the survey). I honestly have enough for years to come and have a bunch that still needs to be split and stacked. But of course, if some wood falls in my lap, I certainly won’t turn it down.

I’m with you. I’ve got several cords of rounds stacked up on my property that I still need to process. So I’ll focus on that for most of the summer. But I always stumble upon a cord or two here and there during summer - that I simply can’t pass up.

I selected over 5 cords assuming that I= you.  As for me, had a call from one of my tree fairies who was taking down a silver maple and ash. Hated to do it, but timing plus the fact I have so much wood scattered around that needs split. I guess it's a good problem to have.

I have a number of trees down from winter storms that will need to be processed and I have to clear some trees from the area my new septic system is going to go. I am just trying to replace the wood I burned this past winter. I have to stay on the 5 year plan or maybe try to stretch it to 6 years.

Disregard my last message. Picked this up a mile from the house an hour ago. Darn it anyway!

I voted you ''wood'' scrounge a Bobby Orr for your total.

I did go by a place today west of of here that had a chit load of big azz rounds dumped on the ground, it was almost like a tree service had been dumping them there.

I won't be doing much as this old body is just screaming at me too much. I still have a little bit to move (from what was done during GTG) and have a bunch that needs splitting. Plus, when it gets hot, not much gets done anymore.

Not yet…and it’s still there! Maybe this fall when some of the brush dies back a bit. I still have multiple cords I need to cut and move out of the woods in VT. And setup more pallets to store said wood…
