Took the day off because and ended up helping my son collect more firewood. This is a couple oak trees brought down at his significant others family farm. Chestnut and white oak. It’s inside a fenced area they once used for deer.
He was allowed to use their Kubota. Load 1: Couple noisy peacocks. Nice big rounds. Sure glad we have hydro help! Load 2:
Bunch of Guinea fowl running around. They have lots of horses, turkeys, chickens… sure I’m missing more. Last load was a full trailer and one round that got put in the truck.
Thanks Bernie. I haven't taken the day off for my bday in a long time, so it was usually just another day at work.
Absolutely. Morning was spent with wife and daughter. Had the best pancake breakfast with them, then headed to my sons. There is no greater gift than time spent with family. Couple of those were larger than the 22" pic I showed. Wrestling those... wow, I'm feeling the old.. . All we could do was let them roll off the truck or trailer and let them fall. I now fully understand how useful a log lift would be on a splitter. I'd probably guess 1.5-2. Probably will never know as we just piled it all on what he already had laying that needs split. He has my splitter so it'll all get combined.
Thanks. I had the bags aired up to 90lbs. The bed doesn't look as high and as packed as some of my other loads but there was some serious weight in each one. Using that little tractor really makes me want my own!
Looks like an awesome time was had. Cant beat quality time spent with him. Nice looking place they have there. Will it be a regular scrounging area for him/you?
I'd like to hope so. There is dead standing wood in the pasture where the horses were. Not sure if the land owners will want/trust us to fall them.
Between them and the Peacocks I doubt you could even hear the saws run! Y'all definitely hauled some lbs and BTUs home there! Sounds like the seed has been planted...
A day spent working up firewood with your son sounds like a great way to spend any day, especially your birthday!
Thanks to both of you. As Dave mentioned, those peacocks were crazy loud!! Turkey was gobbling non stop and the horses were interested in what we were doing. It was very different from what I’ve been used to, which is being alone in the quiet mountains. Only thing I hear up there is some random gun fire and a not too far away neighbor that runs his leaf blower a lot. Definitely! I’ll take it when I can, even if it is work.
