I did a little firewood processing this weekend; mainly kindling and pine. All the wood pictured came down this winter; mostly in that big storm we had in March. What a day for splitting! Temps in VT this morning when I went out were in the 50s/60s with a decent breeze. I hardly broke a sweat which was nice. The Kindling Cracker is awesome! This makes short work of smaller “rounds”. I split a good amount yesterday afternoon and added today’s splits to the stack. I plan on adding some end posts and making this look neater. All in time. This is all pine from my neighbor who didn’t want it. I was able to pop medium sized rounds with the Fiskars. As you can see, some of those bigger ones would be a challenge to hand split. As luck would have it, I ended up chatting with my neighbor who saw me splitting from his driveway. He asked if I was doing all that by hand; “Yep, for now.”. He then offered to let me borrow a log splitter he inherited from his brother. He said he’d drop it off next month. Soooooooo! I’ll be able to get after those big pine rounds and the others I have staged. I’ll also have to get up back and get more hardwood from the logging the same neighbor had done a few years back. Of course, I’ll continue to post pics of this endeavor!
Nice! I'm grabbing free lightweight pallets this year and splitting them for next season(s). 10-12 twelve inch sticks about an inch in diameter shoved into a small-medium brown paper bag rolled up. and maybe some splitter drops. Wife likes to throw whole thing in, light the bag, and let er go. Of course I like to fiddle with it properly stacked in the stove when it's my turn.
