I’m calling it now. For me the 2022-2023 season is done. We’ll still have a couple mornings creeping towards the low 40s but I’m not anticipating needing a fire. I just topped off the racks under my deck for the fall season. A nice mix of ash, apple, a little oak, cherry, and some leftover elm and mulberry. My stacks in the back are more than adequately full. Time for warm weather chores/activities.
Yep, I’m done. Had my last fire last night. With the stove in the basement occasional use doesn't really work well. There is the most firewood left in the basement ever. It was a fun winter, very cold for longer than usual. We rarely see -20* for prolonged periods. While for the most part we had little snow we got one 45” storm. And with all that the ground never really froze. Strange. I’m ready for the change of seasons! Well, except for the insects that come with it.
I thought that the fire yesterday was the last, but it got colder than I expected overnight, and the house was 67* this morning, so I lit off another small load...its getting to the point now, I may just burn some dino juice if a lil heat is needed...
63⁰ inside this morning. If I had a fire ready to light, I'm sure I would have. But, I knew there would be lots of solar gain. I will give the stove a good cleaning and build a fire for the next chilly morning. There's still more to come.
I said before and I will say it again! Wood is work so if I want to light a woodstove and open my windows for fresh air.. I WILL.. and Do
I can't predict the weather so I can't predict the use of heating. For me, I am very dependent on the mini split for both heating and cooling. I would burn more often if I had the ability to get pellets from the garage to my stove. If only for those short periods of time I want to take the edge off the cool and dampness.
This past week it has been raining and in the 50's so we are buring up the last of the porch wood. Might as well so I don't have to move it! What's weird is this weather came after we hit 87 the week before. I'm drinking my coffee in the family room this morning with the stove going. I'll take it!
